Harness - Seat - Driver (Remove and Replace)

Note

The below procedure describes the removal of the driver's seat harness on a LHD model. The procedure for RHD models is similar while illustrations may be mirror-imaged.

Warning

The video(s) included in this procedure are meant as an overview for supplemental purposes only. Follow all of the steps listed in the procedure to avoid damage to components and/or personal injury.

Remove

Open all four doors

Note
If vehicle is being powered down, Latch rear doors to prevent accidental closure
Lower all four windows
Move the LH front seat to most rearward and lowest position
Remove inboard side shield from LH front seat

Note
1x clip, Once front clip is released, Release rear of trim and rotate upward then feed buckle through slot to remove
Disconnect LH front seat buckle connector

Note
1x connector
Release the clip that attaches the seat belt buckle connector to the seat cushion frame

Note
1x fir tree clip
Remove the clips securing the seat belt buckle connector harness to the seat cushion frame

Note
2x fir tree clips
Move LH front seat forward
Move RH front seat forward
Remove 2nd row seat cushion and disconnect harness

Note
2x tabs, 2x connectors, Press tab toward LH side of vehicle on each side to release front edge of seat cushion
Open hood

Note
Press "Open" button on the touchscreen to release the latch, Lift the lid manually
Remove rear apron

Note
12x clips, Only store rear apron visible face upwards
Remove LH IP end cap

Note
3x clips
Remove LH mid A-pillar assembly

Note
1x clip, 1x tab, Release the upper clip then pull mid A-pillar upward to remove
Remove clip for LH lower A-pillar trim

Note
1x push clip
Remove LH lower A-pillar trim

Note
1x clip, 2 guide tabs, Pull rear of lower A-pillar upward to release clip then pull rearward to release front tabs from carpet
Release seat belt retractor from LH front seat

Note
Adjust seat if needed, Insert special removal tool into the bottom of the retractor to release
Fully recline RH seat to allow for headrest removal
Install the outboard headrest release tool

Note
Depress the material around the headrest post to expose the release clip, Ensure both tangs of the release tool engage the retaining spring, The release tool is rotated into position, Images show headrest removed for clarity
Install the inboard headrest release tool

Depress the material around the headrest post to expose the release clip, Ensure both tangs of the release tool engage the retaining spring, The release tool is rotated into position, Images show headrest removed for clarity
Remove the headrest from seat

Note
2x locking clips, Remove by pulling straight up, out of the seat
Remove the inboard headrest release tool

Note
Rotate the release tool out of position, Do not pull straight up or out
Remove the outboard headrest release tool

Note
Rotate the release tool out of position, Do not pull straight up or out
Remove seat back from LH front seat

Note
8x clips, Start at the top of the seat and pull the shell away from the frame, When the side clips are free, pull the bottom and carefully roll the bottom tabs out of the slots, If pulled straight out the clips on the seat back can break off, Release remaining clips from underneath seat assembly, Move seat as needed for access
Move LH front seat rearward and upward position
Tilt seat back to forward position
Power off vehicle from center display

Note
Via Controls > Safety & Security > Vehicle Power > Power Off, Confirm power off at warning dialogue box
Disconnect 12V negative terminal

Note
1x nut, 10mm, 6 Nm, Ensure the vehicle is in park, climate control system is off, and vehicle is not charging before disconnecting 12V
Remove 12V cap from ancillary bay

Note
1x cap
Disconnect HVC logic connector and install logic cap

Note
1x connector, 1x cap, Release locking tab then push the handle downward to release connector
Remove the lower flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame

Note
Pull the trim straight up, off of the retaining tabs to release
Remove the upper flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame

Note
Pull the lower section of trim away from the retaining tab to release, then pull the trim straight up off of the upper retaining tab
Remove the outer clips securing the seat upholstery to the seat back frame

Note
2x clips, To release, rotate the clips off of the frame from the inside out
Pull the seat upholstery away from the air bag to gain access to the air bag electrical connector
Disconnect driver seat air bag

Note
1x connector, Pull both of the orange tabs down to release the connector
Remove the harness clip securing the airbag pigtail to the seat back frame

Note

Disconnect the recliner motor

Disconnect the lumbar valve pack and ECU

Note

Disconnect the lumbar pump

Remove the seat harness from seat back frame

Note

Remove screw securing outer side cover to seat

Note
1x screw, T20, 4 Nm, Ensure the front of the seat is high enough to access the T20 screw
Release outer side cover clip from seat, but do not remove

Note
1x clip, Do not fully remove, possible damage to the trim/switch pack/harness
Disconnect seat switch connector

Note

Slide outer cover rearward to release clip from frame and lift up over pretensioner to remove

Note

Remove clips securing seat switch harness to seat cushion frame

Note

Release seat belt pretensioner harness clips

Note
3x clips, Use 90 pick to release harness clips from seat track rail
Disconnect the seat belt pretensioner

Note
1x connector, Pull both of the orange tabs down to release the connector
Disconnect the tilt motor connector

Note

Remove the harness retaining clip under the tilt motor

Note
1x retaining clip
Route the seat belt pretensioner leg of the seat harness away from the seat

Note
Route the harness leg from behind the tilt motor and away from the bottom of the seat
Disconnect the lift motor connector

Disconnect the seat back heater connector

Disconnect the heat pad connector

Remove clip securing the harness to the under side of the seat, next to the seat heater connectors

Note
1x retaining clip
Disconnect the seat occupied sensor and set the sensor harness pigtail aside

Remove the retaining clip that secures the seat occupied sensor connector to the seat bottom and discard

Note
The new harness comes with the retaining clip installed on the harness connector
Remove the retaining clip under the main seat harness junction

Note

Remove the clip securing the harness to the seat cushion frame under the lift motor

Note

Disconnect LH front seat track motor connector

Note

Remove the clip securing the track motor harness to the track motor housing

Note

Disconnect the seat track position sensor connector

Remove the clips securing the seat belt buckle connector harness to the seat cushion frame

Disconnect LH front seat harness from left body controller

Note
1x connector, Release white lock, Slide lock upward
Release LH front seat harness from sill trim clips

Note
5x clips
Route the seat belt buckle leg of the harness away from the seat to allow the seat harness to be removed

Note
Route the seat belt buckle leg around the lift motor and away from the seat, The harness will be completely free from the seat at this point

Install

Position the new seat harness for installation

Note
Route the harness under the lift motor and tilt motor placing the harness legs in the correct locations, Harness clips will be installed later
Install LH seat harness to sill trim clips

Note
5x clips, Tuck excess harness between 12v harness bracket and body
Connect LH front seat harness to left body controller

Note
1x connector, Engage locking tab, Tuck excess harness if equipped with MY compatible seat
Connect the LH front seat belt pretensioner

Note
1x connector
Install seat belt pretensioner harness clips

Note
3x clips, Position seat belt pretensioner harness clips to seat track rail and press down on each clip to secure
Install clips securing seat switch harness to seat cushion frame

Note

Connect seat switch connector

Slide outer cover forward to engage clip into the frame and lift up over pretensioner to install

Note

Install the retaining clip under the main seat harness junction

Install screw securing outer side cover to seat

1x screw, T20, 4 Nm
Install the clip securing the harness to the seat cushion frame under the lift motor

Connect the seat occupied sensor and install the clip onto the seat bottom

Note
1x connector, 1x retaining clip, Ensure harness is not routed between cushion and frame to avoid friction
Install the clip securing the harness to the under side of the seat, next to the seat heater connectors

Connect the heat pad connector

Connect the seat back heater connector

Install the harness retaining clip under the tilt motor

Install the clip securing the track motor harness to the track motor housing

Install the seat harness to seat back frame

Install the harness clip securing the airbag pigtail to the seat back frame
Pull the seat upholstery away from the air bag to gain access to the air bag electrical connector
Connect LH front seat side air bag

Install the outer clips securing the seat upholstery to the seat back frame

Install the upper flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame

Pull the flap over the metal tangs to secure
Install the lower flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame

Pull the flap over the metal tangs to secure
Install the seat back shell base assembly to seat back frame

Note
8x clips, Install the lower clips first and rotate the shell up into place, Light pressure may need to be applied to the shell to ensure it's fully seated, The headrest posts will engage the seat back when installed
Hook the strap clips for the seat back shell onto the seat suspension

Note
2x clips, Ensure the straps are tight for proper fit and installation
Install the headrest into passenger seat

Note
2x locking clips, Ensure the headrest is fully seated, An audible click will be heard when installing the headrest, Ensure the headrest is seated by tugging up on the headrest
Remove logic cap and connect the HVC logic connector

Note
1x connector, 1x cap, Align connector then pull the handle to locking position get connector fully seated
Install 12V cap to ancillary bay

Note
1x cap
Connect 12V negative terminal

Note
1x nut, 10mm, 6 Nm
Install rear apron

Close hood
Move the LH front seat to most rearward and lowest position
Install the clips securing the seat belt buckle connector harness to the seat cushion frame

Install clip securing seat belt buckle harness connector to the seat cushion frame

Connect the seat belt buckle

Install LH inner side shield to driver seat

Note
3x clips, Slide the trim onto the seat from the opening for the buckle, then slide forward into position
Move LH front seat forward
Install LH front seat retractor to seat
Install LH lower A-pillar trim

Note
1x clip, 2 guide tabs, Align the 2 front tabs then align the slot with harness bracket and then push rear clip to secure to lower B-pillar, Fully seat seal along trim
Install clip for LH lower A-pillar trim

Note
1x push clip
Install LH mid A-pillar assembly

Note
1x clip, 1x tab, Align the bottom tab then push the top clip to fully seat mid A-pillar, Pull seal over trim
Install LH IP end cap

Note
3x clips
Connect 2nd row seat cushion harness and install 2nd row seat cushion

Note
2x connectors, 2x clips, Insert the seat belt buckles through the holes, Slide rear cushion inward then align front guide tabs to locking tabs, Make sure cushion is fully seated with push & pull test near clips
Move LH front seat to original position
Move RH front seat to original position
Raise all windows
Close all four doors

Note
Unlatch rear doors before closing
