Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect)

Warning
Model 3
vehicles are equipped with both an OBD-II J1962 port (which does not support Diagnostic
over Internet Protocol (DoIP)) and a separate diagnostic port. Do not connect an OBD-II J1962 to RJ45
Ethernet cable into an OBD-II J1962 port that does not support DoIP. Doing so may cause
damage to electronic equipment.
CAUTION
Always use the appropriate
diagnostic cable and connector location. See Diagnostic Cables.
Note
Connecting the vehicle to Toolbox 3 will
also automatically activate Service Mode Plus.
Complete Connect

vehicles are equipped with both an OBD-II J1962 port (which does not support Diagnostic
over Internet Protocol (DoIP)) and a separate diagnostic port. Do not connect an OBD-II J1962 to RJ45
Ethernet cable into an OBD-II J1962 port that does not support DoIP. Doing so may cause
damage to electronic equipment.

Check the condition of the connectors
of the laptop with Toolbox 3, the vehicle interface cable, and the vehicle interface
connector.
NoteIf the vehicle interface cable is damaged in any way, do not use it.
- Open the LH front door.

Connect the vehicle interface cable to
the laptop and to the diagnostic port located in the LH footwell.
NotePerform a push-pull-push check of each of the connections.
- If powered off, press the brake pedal to power on the vehicle drive rails.
- If powered off, power on the laptop, sign in and open a web browser to the Toolbox 3 website.
- In Toolbox 3, click the grey circle in the upper right corner to open the connection window.

From the drop-down, select Connect Locally, and then
click Connect.
NoteWhen the connection is successfully established, the grey circle becomes green.
- Click the green circle to close the connection window.
- Return to the procedure that required a laptop with Toolbox 3 connection to the vehicle.

Note
A quick connect is only possible after a successful quick disconnect.
- Bring the laptop and vehicle interface cable to the vehicle.

Connect the vehicle interface cable to
the diagnostic port.
NotePerform a push-pull-push check of the connection.
- If the circle in the upper right corner does not immediate change to green, click the circle, click Connect Locally, and then click Connect.
Complete Disconnect
- Allow any running Toolbox 3 routines to complete.
- In Toolbox 3, click the green circle in the upper right corner to open the connection window.
- Click Disconnect, and then click the grey circle to close the connection window.
- Disconnect the vehicle interface cable from the diagnostic port and from the laptop.
