- 1143985-00-A Valve Core Removal Tool
Warning
Make sure 12V/LV power has
been disconnected for at least 1 minute before disconnecting the electrical harness from
Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components, such as Restraint Control Module, sensors,
airbags, etc. Failure to do so can result in unintended safety system behaviors. For more
information on SRS precautions, see Airbag and Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) Precautions.

Remove
- Disconnect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).

Insert the valve core
removal tool (1143985-00-A) into the holes in the steering wheel just far
enough to compress the spring clip simultaneously, and then remove the
driver airbag from the steering wheel.
CAUTIONTo avoid damaging the airbag connector and wiring, do not insert the tool too far into the holes.NoteInsert the valve core removal tool into the hole, gently lift the tool handle toward the steering wheel, and then continue to insert the tool to release the latch.
- Disconnect the driver airbag electrical connector from the steering wheel, and then remove the airbag from the vehicle.
Install
- Make sure that the lower horn bracket is properly secured to the steering wheel.

Connect the driver airbag electrical connector to the steering wheel.
CAUTIONMake sure the harness does not get caught between the airbag and the horn.
- Fully press the driver airbag into the steering wheel so that the spring clip attaches the airbag to the steering wheel.
- Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV Power (Disconnect and Connect).
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - Lower - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
