Ski Cover - HV Battery - Center (Remove and Replace)

Only
technicians who have been trained in High Voltage Awareness and
have completed all required certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to
perform this procedure. Proper personal protective equipment
(PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating
of class 0 (1000V) must be worn at all times a high voltage
cable, busbar, or fitting is handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, High Voltage Awareness
Care Points
for additional safety
information.
Remove
- Raise and support the vehicle. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Disconnect the LV power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
- Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the rear aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the rear HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Position a coolant drain container underneath the RH rear of the HV battery.
- Release the clip, disconnect the RH inner HV battery return hose from the RH rear of HV battery, and then immediately plug both fittings.
- Remove the coolant drain container from underneath the RH rear of the HV battery.
- Release the clip that attaches the RH inner HV battery return hose to the RH rear of the HV battery.

Release the red tab, then release the black locking lever to disconnect the
electrical connector that connects the A/C HV harness to the RH rear of the
HV battery.

- Release the red tab, then rotate the black lever up to disconnect the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV harness to the HV battery.
- Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the front HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Front (Remove and Replace).

Remove the bolt that
attaches the front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- 10 mm socket
- Release the red tab, then rotate the black lever up to disconnect the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit.

Release the HV connector
bracket from the stud on the LH side of the firewall.

- Pull the red locking tab away from the connector body, press down on the yellow locking tab and pull the connector backward, then press down on the green locking tab to disconnect the electrical connector that connects the A/C HV harness to the A/C compressor.
- Position a coolant drain container underneath the HV battery manifold hose.
- Release the spring clip, disconnect the RH front manifold hose from the LH manifold hose, and then immediately plug both fittings.
- Remove the coolant drain container from underneath the RH rear of the HV battery.
- Release the clips (x2) that attach the ancillary harness bracket to the front of the HV battery.

With an assistant, remove
the bolts (x6) that attach the center rail ski to the HV battery.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- External Torx Plus EP14
- 3 in extension
- Remove the center rail ski from the vehicle.
- Remove the upper cap cover at the front of the HV battery center rail ski. See Bracket - High Voltage - Ski - Top (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the lower cap cover at the rear of the HV battery center rail ski. See Bracket - High Voltage - Ski - Bottom (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the HV battery to front drive unit harness from the center of the HV battery center rail ski.
- Remove the A/C compressor electrical harness from the center of the HV battery center rail ski.
- Remove the HV battery center rail ski cover.
Install
- With an assistant, install the center rail ski to the HV battery.

With an assistant, install
the bolts (x6) that attach the center rail ski to the HV battery.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- External Torx Plus EP14
- Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
- Install the A/C compressor electrical harness to the center of the HV battery center rail ski.
- Install the HV battery to front drive unit harness to the center of the HV battery center rail ski.
- Install the lower cap cover at the rear of the HV battery center rail ski. See Bracket - High Voltage - Ski - Bottom (Remove and Replace).
- Install the upper cap cover at the front of the HV battery center rail ski. See Bracket - High Voltage - Ski - Top (Remove and Replace).
- Install the clips (x2) that attach the ancillary harness bracket to the front of the HV battery.
- Push the red locking tab toward the connector body to fully lock the electrical connector that connects the A/C HV harness to the A/C compressor.
- Install the HV connector bracket to the stud on the LH side of the firewall.

Install the bolt that
attaches the front drive unit HV electrical harness bracket to the front
drive unit.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- 10 mm socket
- Fully raise the handle on the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit .
- Install the HV connector special tool onto the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit .

Use both hands to firmly
connect the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV
harness to the front drive unit.
CAUTIONMake sure that the connector fits the header squarely and tightly, and that both retention pins enter the handle.
- Remove the HV connector special tool from the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit.

While pressing the
electrical connector onto the front drive unit, fully lower the
handle.
CAUTIONMake sure that the handle does not bind as it is lowered.
- Slide the release to lock the electrical connector in the secured position.

Verify that the electrical
connector is fully seated, and compare both sides of the connector that it
is properly secured in place.
NoteAn improperly seated connector might lead to connector damage and rear drive unit problems later on.
- Position a coolant drain container underneath the HV battery manifold hose.

Remove the coolant plugs,
connect the RH front manifold hose to the LH front manifold hose, and then
fasten the spring clip.
NotePerform a push-pull test to verify that the hose is fully seated.
- Remove the coolant drain container from underneath the HV battery manifold hose.
- Install the front HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Fully raise the handle on the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV harness to the HV battery.
- Install the HV connector special tool onto the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV harness to the HV battery.

Use both hands to firmly
connect the electrical connector that connects the front drive unit HV
harness to the HV battery.
CAUTIONMake sure that the connector fits the header squarely and tightly, and that both retention pins enter the handle.
- Remove the HV connector special tool from the HV battery front drive unit connector.

While pressing the
electrical connector onto the HV battery header, fully lower the
handle.
CAUTIONMake sure that the handle does not bind as it is lowered.
- Slide the release to lock the electrical connector in the secured position.

Verify that the electrical
connector is fully seated, and compare both sides of the connector that it
is properly secured in place.
NoteAn improperly seated connector might lead to connector damage and rear drive unit problems later on.
- Remove the coolant plugs, quickly connect the RH inner HV battery return hose to the HV battery, and then fasten the clip.
- Fasten the clip that attaches the RH inner HV battery return hose to the HV battery.
- Install the rear HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Install the rear aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
- Connect the LV power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
- Perform the cooling system (partial refill and bleed) procedure. See Cooling System (Partial Refill and Bleed).
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See .
