Assembly - Brake Lines - Master Cylinder to HCU (LHD) (Remove and Replace)

Remove
Brake fluid dissolves paint. Have clean towels and plenty of water standing by to wash spilled brake fluid off painted surfaces.
Dispose of used brake fluid in a manner consistent with local environmental codes.
- Put the vehicle on the lift. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
- Remove all the four wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Raise and support the vehicle. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
- Remove the front aero shield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Lower the vehicle fully.
- Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
- Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LV battery from the vehicle. See LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the shock tower brace. See Brace - Shock Tower (Remove and Replace).
- Disengage the locking tab, and then pull up the connector to release the hydraulic control unit connector.
- Place absorbent material underneath the brake booster and the reservoir area, clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir, and then remove the brake reservoir cap.
- Remove the fluid from the brake fluid reservoir by using a brake fluid syringe.

Remove the nuts (x2) that
attach the forward and the rear brake line to the brake booster.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 12mm 12pt combination wrench
- ¼ in to 3/8 in adapter
- 12 mm socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- Position the fluid catcher underneath the vehicle.

Remove the master cylinder
secondary pipe nut and primary pipe nut from the hydraulic control unit in
turn.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 12 mm socket
- ¼ in to 3/8 in adapter
- 6 in extension
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- Release the primary and secondary pipes from the bundle clip.
- Release the master cylinder brake lines from the clip which is at the rear of the hydraulic control unit bracket, and then remove the master cylinder brake line bundle from the vehicle.
Install
- Place the master cylinder brake line bundle into the vehicle for installation.

Install the nuts (x2) that
attach the rear and the forward brake line to the brake booster.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 12mm 12pt combination wrench
- ¼ in to 3/8 in adapter
- 12 mm socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- Install the brake reservoir cap, and then remove the absorbent material from underneath the brake booster and the reservoir area.
- Secure the master cylinder brake lines to the clip which is at the rear of the hydraulic control unit bracket.
- Install the primary and secondary pipes into the bundle clip.

Install the master cylinder
primary pipe nut and secondary pipe nut to the hydraulic control unit in

- 12 mm socket
- ¼ in to 3/8 in adapter
- 6 in extension
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- Remove the fluid catcher from underneath the vehicle.
- Gently push the connector downward, and then engage the locking tab to connect the hydraulic control unit connector.
- Install the shock tower brace. See Brace - Shock Tower (Remove and Replace).
- Install the LV battery. See LV Battery (Remove and Replace).
- Connect the LV battery power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
- Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).

Raise the vehicle fully and
lower the lift onto locks.
CAUTION
Make sure there is an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise the vehicle may tilt to one side.
Make sure that the doors are clear of surrounding objects.
- Install the front aero shield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
- Bleed the brake fluid. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush (Maintenance).
