Telematics Control Unit (TCU) (Remove and Replace)

Torque Specifications

Reuse

Remove

  1. Open all doors and lower all windows.
  2. Move the LH front seat fully forward.
  3. Move the LH front seat backrest forward to gain access to the LH middle and upper B-pillar trims.

    CAUTION
    Take care of the headliner, sun visor and glass. DO NOT damage them.
  4. Remove the LH side rail trim. See Trim - Side Rail - LH (Remove and Replace).
  5. Push to open the LH rear coat hook.
  6. Use a small flat head screwdriver to pry open the LH rear coat hook screw cover.
  7. Remove the screw that attaches the LH rear coat hook to the body.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 2 in extension
    • Torx T25 socket
    • Torque Wrench Hexagon - 1060071-00-A (for installation only)
  8. Release the LH primary front and real side body seals that cover the B pillar middle and upper trims to gain access to the LH middle and upper B-pillar trims.

    Note
    It is not necessary to remove the whole primary seals.
  9. Release the clips (x5) and locator pins (x3) that attach the LH middle B-pillar trim to the body.

    Note
    Carefully pull the top of the LH middle B-pillar trim towards the inside of the vehicle to release the clips and locators, and then separate the middle trim from the upper trim.

    CAUTION
    Take care not to damage the LH middle B-pillar trim.
  10. Release the clips (x3) ad locator pins (x3) that attach the LH upper B-pillar trim to the body, and set the upper trim aside.

    Note
    Pull the bottom of the LH upper B-pillar trim towards the inside of the vehicle, and then pull the top of the trim to release the remaining upper clips.
  11. Repeat step 2 through step 10 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  12. Disconnect LV power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
  13. Release the clips (x6) and locator pin that attach the rear end of the headliner to the body.

    Note
    If needed, carefully insert inflatable air bags between the headliner and the body and inflate the bags to gain access to the Telematics control unit (TCU).

    CAUTION
    Take care not damage the headliner.
  14. If equipped, slide the retaining tab of the telematics control unit (TCU) SIM card to the left, and then remove the SIM card.

    Note
    Do not destroy the SIM card, as it will be installed into the new TCU.
  15. Disconnect the RH body electrical harness from the TCU connectors (x2).
  16. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the TCU to the body.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 2 in extension
    • 10 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  17. Release the clips (x2) and locator pin that attach the TCU to the body, and then remove the TCU from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Install the clips (x2) and locator pin that attach the TCU to the body.
  2. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the TCU to the body.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 2 in extension
    • 10 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  3. Connect the RH body electrical harness to the TCU connectors (x2).
  4. If equipped, install the original SIM card into the TCU slot with the gold pads facing downward.

    Make sure that the SIM card goes into the slot, before releasing your grip of the SIM card.

    Note
    Once the SIM card is fully pressed into the slot, the retaining tab will automatically return to its original position.
  5. Install the clips (x6) and locator pins (x2) that attach the rear end of the headliner to the body.

    If inflatable air bags are used, deflate and remove them.

    Make sure that the door seals correctly overlap the headliner.

    CAUTION
    Take care not damage the headliner.
  6. Connect LV power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
  7. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  8. Touch the Controls > Infotainment > Software > Software Reinstall > TCU, and click Reinstall to reinstall the TCU software.
  9. Align the locator pins (x3) to the slots, and then install the clips that attach the LH upper B-pillar trim to the vehicle.

    Make sure that the door seal correctly overlaps the LH upper B-pillar trim.
  10. Align the locator pins (x3) to the slots, and then install the clips that attach the B-pillar middle trim to the vehicle.

  11. Install the screw that attaches the LH rear coat hook to the body.
    3.5 Nm (2.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 2 in extension
    • Torx T25 socket
    • Torque Wrench Hexagon - 1060071-00-A (for installation only)
  12. Close the LH rear coat hook screw cover.
  13. Close the LH rear coat hook.
  14. Install the LH side rail trim. See Trim - Side Rail - LH (Remove and Replace).
  15. Move the LH front seat and backrest back to their original positions.
  16. Repeat step 9 through step 15 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  17. Once the software reinstallation is completed, check that the release notes appear on the touchscreen, indicating a successful reinstallation.
  18. If the TCU is equipped with an eSIM card, perform the following substeps to swap the eSIM profile.
    1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
    2. In Toolbox, click Action tab, type "Swap Dual Bootstrap eSIM operator" in the search field, and select PROC_ICE_X_DUAL-BOOTSTRAP-E-SIMSearch for routine in ToolboxSwap Dual Bootstrap eSIM Operator, select kpn, and then click Run.

      For NA and China, Do Not select the kpn.

      After the routine ends, click the "X" at the upper right corner of the prompt.
    3. Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
    4. Exit Service Mode.
  19. Raise all windows and close all doors.
