Bushing - Gearcase - Rear Drive Unit (4DU) (Remove and Replace)

  • Drive Unit Bushing Kit

Remove

  1. Raise the 4DU drive unit assembly out of the subframe. See Drive Unit - Rear (4DU) (Remove and Replace).
  2. Lower the rear drive unit onto an appropriate surface.
  3. Remove the 3 hooks of the drive unit sling tool from the drive unit.
  4. With assistance, hang-tighten the bolts (x3) and the nuts (x3) that attach the rear drive unit engine stand adapter to the rear drive unit.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 15mm
  5. Attach the gantry hook to the rear drive unit adapter, and then use the gantry to lift the rear drive unit assembly onto the engine stand.
  6. Move the engine stand into position, and then install the bolts (x4) and the nuts (x4) that attach the rear drive unit adapter to the engine stand.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 18mm
  7. Hand-tighten the nuts (x2) that attach the bushing removal tool to the gearcase bushing.

    Note
    Use cups "C", "A", and "G" to drive the bushing out. Always drive on the bearing side and hold the opposite.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 22mm
  8. Press the gearcase bushing out from the casting.
  9. Separate the bushing removal tool and remove the gearcase bushing.

Install

  1. Hand-tighten the nuts (x2) to attach the bushing installation tool to the new gearcase bushing.

    Note
    Use cups "D" and "E" to install the bushing. Always drive on the bearing side and hold the opposite. Ensure the keyway is up and the lug on the bushing is in the center of the "D" cup opening.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 22mm
  2. Spray lubricant to the bushing exterior.
  3. Press in the new gearcase bushing.
  4. Separate the bushing installation tool and remove the tool from the rear drive unit.
  5. Raise the gantry hook to apply tension and support the rear drive unit engine stand adapter.
  6. Remove the bolts (x4) and the nuts (x4) that attach the rear drive unit adapter to the engine stand, and then move the engine stand away.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 18mm
  7. Lower the rear drive unit and the engine stand adapter onto crate.
  8. Remove the gantry hook from the rear drive unit adapter and move the hook aside.
  9. Remove the bolts (x3) and the nuts (x3) that attach the rear drive unit engine stand adapter to the rear drive unit.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • Combination Wrench 12pt 15mm
  10. Install the 4DU drive unit assembly. See Drive Unit - Rear (4DU) (Remove and Replace).
