Link - Lateral - Lower - Front - LH (Remove and Replace)

  • 2024-02-23: Updated the information about the bolts (x2) that attach the front lower lateral link to the subframe. The bolts need to be discarded and their torque values are 135 Nm.

Reuse

Remove

  1. Inspect the vehicle for abnormal tire wear that might indicate the need for a wheel alignment. Note any findings.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
  3. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove the front aero shield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove and discard the nut that attaches the LH front lower lateral link to the knuckle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 22 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  6. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front lower lateral link to the front subframe.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 21 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  7. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH strut to the LH front lower lateral link, and then remove the LH front lower lateral link from the vehicle.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 21 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench

Install

  1. Position the LH front lower lateral link into the vehicle, and then hand tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH strut to the LH front lower lateral link.
  2. Hand-tighten the new bolts (x2) that attach the LH front lower lateral link to the front subframe.

    CAUTION
    Install only bolt PN 1109912-00-B (China 1109912-99-B) or newer, which has patch material on the bolt threads.
  3. Install a new nut that attaches the LH front lower lateral link to the knuckle.
    180 Nm (132.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 22 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  4. Tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front lower lateral link to the front subframe.
    135 Nm (99.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 21 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Install the front aero shield. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front rotor to the LH front hub.

    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 10 mm socket
    • 2 in extension
  7. Install the hub jack adapter onto the LH front hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts (x5).
  8. Position and raise the underhoist stand to simulate the suspension at ride height.
  9. Measure the distance between the bottom of the fender and the center of the front axle to make sure that the front suspension is set to ride height. The distance should measure 423 mm.
  10. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH strut to the LH front lower lateral link, and then mark the bolt and nut with a paint pen.
    106 Nm (78.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 21 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  11. Remove the underhoist stand from underneath the LH front suspension.
  12. Remove the lug nuts (x5) that attach the hub jack adapter, and then remove the hub jack adapter from the vehicle.

  13. Install the bolt that attaches the LH front rotor to the LH front hub.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)

  14. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  15. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
