Hood Latch (Remove and Replace)

Remove

Note
If the hood latch does not open electronically, use the manual front trunk release tool to open the hood.

CAUTION
When using the manual front trunk release tool in Mobile Service, raise the vehicle using mini ramps and verify stability of the vehicle.
  1. Remove the access panel. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the hood latch actuator.
    Note
    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  3. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the hood latch actuator to the front end carrier.
    Note
    Mark the latch actuator location on the front end carrier.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  4. Release the hood latch actuator cable from the hood latch, and then remove the actuator from the vehicle.
    Note
    Release the clip before removing the actuator cable from the latch arm.

Install

  1. Install the hood latch actuator cable to the hood latch.
    Note
    Secure the cable end to the latch arm, and then attach the clip.
  2. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the hood latch actuator to the front end carrier, but do not fully torque the bolts, and adjust the latch actuator position based on marks.
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the hood latch actuator.
  4. Close the hood and verify alignment is within specification. If necessary, open the hood and repeat step 1 and step 1 until alignment is satisfactory.
  5. Fully tighen the bolts.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Install the access panel. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
  7. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  8. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): PROC_VCFRONT_X_RESET-FRUNK-OPEN-FAIL-METRICvia Service Mode Plus:Closures ➜ Frunk ➜ Frunk Latch Metric Resetvia Toolbox:(link)
  9. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  10. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
