Brake Pad Kit - Front (Base Brakes) (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Place absorbent material underneath the brake booster and reservoir area.
  4. Remove the LH and RH front wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the brake pad retaining pins that attach the anti-rattle spring from the LH front brake caliper.
  6. Remove the front brake pads from the LH front brake caliper.
  7. Use the caliper spreader kit or similar tool to gently push the piston back into the caliper.
  8. Clean the caliper pins and anti-rattle spring with soapy water and a hand brush.
  9. Repeat step 5 through step 8 to remove the RH front brake pads.

Install

  1. Apply an even layer of Silaramic grease to the left and right side edges of the LH front brake pads.
  2. Install the LH front brake pads to the LH front brake caliper.
  3. Apply an even layer of Silaramic lubricant to the LH front brake caliper retaining pins.
  4. Install the brake pad retaining pins that attach the anti-rattle spring to the LH front brake caliper.
  5. Repeat step 1 through step 4 to install the RH front brake pads.
  6. Install the LH and RH front wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Pump the brake pedal 3-5 times to seat the pads against the brake rotor until the brake pedal feels firm.
  8. Check the brake fluid reservoir and top off as necessary.
  9. Remove the absorbent material from underneath the brake booster and reservoir area.
  10. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the lift arms from below the vehicle.
  12. Perform one of the following:
    • If the brake pads were not replaced in this procedure, perform a road test using a series of aggressive stops and make sure that there is proper brake pedal feel and brake performance.
