Procedure

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  2. Enter the Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  3. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  4. On the touchscreen, touch Thermal > Coolant System > Coolant Fill/Drain and select Run to start the "Start Thermal Fluid Fill/Drain (Coolant Only)" routine.

    Note
If the routine takes more than 5 hours, perform the routine again.
  5. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the cabin intake duct. See Assembly - Fresh Air Gutter - HVAC (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the front HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Front (Remove and Replace).
  9. Release the lower clips (x3) and bolt that attach the lower rear edge of the LH wheel arch liner to the body, to allow access to the coolant hose.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
  10. Use a bungee strap to pull back the LH front wheel arch liner and secure it to the subframe.
  11. Position the coolant drain under the LH front corner of the HV battery.
  12. Release the clip that attaches the HV battery to manifold hose to the body.
  13. Disconnect the battery to manifold hose at the LH side of the vehicle, plug the female connector of the hose, and allow the battery to drain.
  14. Connect the coolant pressure test adapter to the HV battery inlet hose coupling.
  15. Connect the drive unit pressure test fixture to the coolant pressure test adapter.
  16. Disconnect the HV battery return hose at the LH side of the vehicle, plug the male connector of the hose, and allow the battery to drain.
  17. Connect the coolant drain adapter to the HV battery return hose, and direct the tube to the coolant drain.
  18. Close both valves P1 (inlet) and P2 (outlet) on the test fixture, and connect a compressed air supply line.
  19. Fully close the regulator, and then open P1 (inlet valve).
  20. Set the pressure regulator of the test fixture to 26 psi.
  21. Slowly open P2 (outlet valve) to speed the drain.
  22. Wait at least 5 minutes to completely drain the coolant.
  23. Close both valves P1 (inlet) and P2 (outlet) on the test fixture to let the pressure settle.
  24. Close the HV battery return hose adapter valve.
  25. Open P1(inlet valve) again, and slowly adjust the regulator to 26 psi.
  26. Open P2 (outlet valve) to inject air to the full system, and allow at least 45 seconds for the pressure to stabilize to 26 psi.
  27. Close P1(inlet valve), record the starting pressure displayed, and start a 4 minute timer.
  28. After 4 minutes record the ending pressure displayed.
  29. Subtract the ending pressure from the starting pressure, and if:
    • The difference greater than 0.2 psi, check the hose, adapter, and plug fittings, close P2 (outlet valve) and open P1 (inlet valve), check the regulator pressure, and then retest from step #TASK_UMP_YBP_GCB__GUID-9CF60E0A-0098-4C21-BFF2-557FC82D928A. If the difference is still greater than 0.2 psi, escalate a Toolbox session.
    • The difference is less than 0.2 psi, continue the procedure.
  30. Disconnect the air supply from the test fixture.
  31. Open P1 (inlet valve), and disconnect the test fixture from the coolant pressure test adapter.
  32. Remove the coolant pressure test adapter, coolant pressure test adapter plug, and other plugs from the hoses.
  33. Connect the battery to manifold hose, and the HV battery return hose.
  34. Remove the coolant drain from under the vehicle.
  35. Fasten the clip that attaches the battery to manifold hose to the body.
  36. Remove the bungee strap from the LH front wheel arch liner.
  37. Fasten the lower clips (x3) and bolt that attach the lower rear edge for the LH wheel arch liner to the body.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 4 in extension
    • 10 mm socket
  38. Install the front HV battery skid plate. See Skid Plate - HV Battery - Front (Remove and Replace).
  39. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  40. Perform a vaccum refill the cooling system. See Cooling System - Vacuum Refill.
  41. Exit the Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  42. Install the cabin intake duct. See Assembly - Fresh Air Gutter - HVAC (Remove and Replace).
  43. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  44. Remove the vehicle from the lift. See .
  45. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
