Ground Straps - Front Drive Unit (Remove and Replace)

Torque Specifications

Reuse

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Disconnect the LV power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
  4. Remove the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  5. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure.
  6. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the bolt that attaches the front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit.

    Note
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench (for installation only)
  8. Put on HV insulating gloves to release the locking tab to unlock the front drive unit HV harness connector. Slowly unlatch the release handle on the front drive unit HV harness connector, and then disconnect the connector from the front drive unit.

    CAUTION
    Do not apply excessive force to the handle; doing so could damage the connector alignment tabs.
  9. Remove the bolt that attaches the front drive unit ground strap to the front drive unit.

    • Ratchet/torque wrench (for installation only)
  10. Use a clip prytool to release the clip that attaches the front drive unit ground strap to the front drive unit.
  11. Remove the bolt that attaches the front drive unit ground strap to the HV battery, and then remove the ground strap from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Install the bolt that attaches the front drive unit ground strap to the HV battery.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  2. Install the clip that attaches the front drive unit ground strap to the front drive unit.
  3. Install the bolt that attaches the front drive unit ground strap to the front drive unit.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)

    Note

    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench (for installation only)
  4. Put on HV insulating gloves to slowly latch the release handle while pressing the front drive unit HV harness connector into the front drive unit.

    Use the front drive unit HV harness connector special tool to install the front drive unit HV harness connector.

    Note
    The front drive unit alignment teeth and HV harness connector alignment teeth should be interlocked.
  5. Install the bolt that attaches the front drive unit HV harness to the front drive unit.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  6. Install the rear aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  7. Install the 2nd row lower seat cushion. See Seat Cushion - 2nd Row (Remove and Replace).
  8. Connect the LV power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
  9. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
