Charge Port Voltage Check
Correction code 44012100 0.18 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. To provide feedback on FRT values, email LaborTimeFeedback@tesla.com. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure.

Only
technicians who have been trained in High Voltage Awareness and
have completed all required certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to
perform this procedure. Proper personal protective equipment
(PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating
of class 0 (1000V) must be worn at all times a high voltage
cable, busbar, or fitting is handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, High Voltage Awareness
Care Points
for additional safety
information.
- North America: HV gloves can be used up to 12 months after the testing date printed on the glove, but only 6 months after first use even if the gloves are still within the 12 month period. If the gloves were not put into service during the 12-month period following the testing date, they must be retested before being put into service.
- Europe: Class 0 (1000V) HV gloves have no expiration date and may be used if they pass the pre-use assessment and the periodic inspection.
- Asia Pacific: Follow the
expiration date stated by the HV glove manufacturer, and:
- o China only: Test the gloves every 6 months according to GB/T 17622.
Procedure
- Open the charge port door.
- Disconnect LV power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
-
Set the multimeter to
measure the DC voltage across the LV auxiliary battery terminals.
CAUTIONIf the voltage across the LV auxiliary battery terminals is less than 14 volts or greater than 18 volts, the multimeter is not measuring reliably and must not be used. Use only a fully functional multimeter.
- Remove all loose articles and jewelry from your person.
- Put on safety glasses, High Voltage (HV) insulating gloves, and leather glove protectors.
- Attach the black negative alligator clip to the LH rear door striker.
-
Touch the red positive slim
test probe to each of the terminals of the charge connector highlighted in
this illustration, and read the voltage:
WarningThe video(s) included in this procedure are meant as an overview for supplemental purposes only. Follow all of the steps listed in the procedure to avoid damage to components and/or personal injury.WarningIf any voltage reading is greater than 10V, the HV battery contactors are closed or welded. Stop this procedure and contact Service Engineering.NoteTouch the probes to the insides of the terminals, not the centers.
-
Touch the red positive slim
test probe to each of the terminals of the DC connector highlighted in this
illustration, and read the voltage:
WarningIf any voltage reading is greater than 10V, the HV battery contactors are closed or welded. Stop this procedure and contact Service Engineering.NoteTouch the sides of the terminals inside of the pin terminals, not the tips.
-
Use the multimeter with slim
test probes to check voltages at the DC charge port terminals B+ and
B-.
WarningIf the voltage reading is greater than 10V, the HV battery contactors are closed or welded. Stop this procedure and contact Service Engineering.NoteTouch the sides of the terminals inside of the pin terminals, not the tips.
- If all previous voltage readings were less than 10V, return to the procedure that specified the charge port voltage check.
- Remove the HV insulating gloves.
- Connect the LV battery power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
-
Close the charge port door.
CAUTIONDo not try to manually close the charge port door.
- Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
