LV Battery - Recover
Correction code 17010008 FRT 0.12 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See Flat Rate Times to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. To provide feedback on FRT values, email LaborTimeFeedback@tesla.com. NOTE: See Personal Protection to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure.
Warning
This procedure is a DRAFT. Although it has been validated, Warnings and Cautions might be missing. Follow safety requirements and use extreme caution when working on or near High Voltage systems and components. Provide corrections and feedback to ServiceDevelopment@teslamotors.com.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
-
Disconnect LV battery connector and keep FRL connected
Note1x connector, Release LV battery but keep FRL connected, Lift up and release green locking tab, Pull black connector lock outwards to release connection
-
Connecting low-voltage battery
maintainer-charger
NoteRelease positive terminal cover, Secure positive terminal to jump post, Secure negative terminal to bolt located between brake fluid reservoir and front trunk, Connect maintainer to power supply, To avoid damaging the vehicle DO NOT allow positive cable to make contact with other metal components, Never have a float charger and the LV battery simultaneously connected for any extended period of time
-
Connect LV battery
Note1x connectors, push black connector lock inwards to secure, Engage green locking tab when fully seated
-
Open LH front door

-
Disconnect 12v maintainer
-
Verify the status of the LV battery.
NoteIf after 2 minutes of PCS support, alerts VCLEFT_a478_LVBMS_MOSFET_Open or VCBATT_a478_LVBMS_MOSFET_Open are present, the LV battery has not auto-recovered. Auto-recovery can be manually attempted via touchscreen or Toolbox:
- Touchscreen:
- Toolbox: Run the ActionPROC_VCFRONT_X_RECONNECT-LV-BATTERYvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Low Voltage ➜ Power Distribution ➜ Close MOSFET
NoteIf the steps above do not succeed in auto-recovering the LV battery, recover the battery using the Tesla Li-Ion battery charger (STILL IN DEVELOPMENT).- Verify that the battery is not discharging at high current and is not self-protecting.
- Go to Service Mode > Low Voltage > Power Distribution > LV Battery and confirm that LV battery SoC is increasing.
- Verify that the LV Battery MOSFET status is Closed.
-
Exit Service Mode
NoteVia UI > Service > Exit, Press and hold "Exit Service Mode" button
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
