Ankle Catcher (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Remove the front fascia assembly. See Fascia - Front (Remove and Replace).

    Note
    It is not necessary to remove the front fascia harness, valance and grille from the front fascia assembly.
  2. Remove the LH bolt that attaches the bottom of the condenser fan module to the ankle catcher.

    Lift the condenser fan module up to ease removal of the bolts.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench (for installation only)
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 8 mm socket
  3. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the front end carrier to the LH subframe crash can.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless hex driver
    • 13 mm socket
  4. Loosen but do not remove the bolt that attaches the LH upper section of the front end carrier to the body.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 13 mm socket
    • 4 in extension
  5. Repeat step 2 through step 4 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  6. Move the front end carrier forward, then pull the ankle catcher downward to remove it from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the ankle catcher onto the vehicle.
  2. Hand-tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the front end carrier to the LH subframe crash can, then repeat this step on the RH side.

  3. Install the bolt that attaches the LH upper section of the front end carrier to the body, then repeat this step on the RH side.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 13 mm socket
    • 4 in extension

  4. Torque the bolts (x2) that attach the front end carrier to the LH subframe crash can, then repeat this step on the RH side.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 13 mm socket
    • 2 in extension

  5. Install the LH bolt that attaches the bottom of the condenser fan module to the ankle catcher, then repeat this step on the RH side.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench (for installation only)
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 8 mm socket

  6. Install the front fascia assembly. See Fascia - Front (Remove and Replace).
