Car Computer (Dispose)

CAUTION
This procedure must be performed
prior to scrapping a Car Computer or Media Control Unit (MCU). The Car Computer
or MCU might contain personally identifying Customer data. Failure to perform
this procedure can result in vulnerabilities to Customer and Tesla internal
information.
Note
The correction code for the disposal of the car computer
must be added to the Service Visit as a separate activity when replacing a car
computer.
Disposal Procedure (HW3.0 Car Computer)
- Use a trim tool to slide the SD card retaining tab over, and then use tweezers to remove the Gateway SD card from the car computer.
- Destroy the SD card by cutting the card in half through the center, and then cut each piece into half, resulting in 4 pieces.
- Remove the bolts (x4) and nuts (x4) that attach the car computer cover to the car computer body.
- Remove the top cover screws (x4), and then remove the top cover from the car computer.
- Remove the screws (x21) that attach the connectivity board and the infotainment PCBA, and then remove the connectivity board.
- Remove the infotainment PCBA from the car computer and flip the board over to expose the ICE CPU and eMMC chip.

Use an 8mm drill bit to
drill holes (x2) in the center of the CPU and eMMC and through the
PCBA.
NotePlace a block of wood or other buffer material under the PCBA.

Release the spring clips
(x4) that attach the coolant hoses to the car computer, and then remove the
coolant hoses.
NoteDrain excess coolant after removal of the hose.
- Remove the screws (x4) of the plate covering the APE board.
- Remove the screws (x18) that retain the APE PCBA, and then pull it out of the car computer.

Flip the APE PCBA board
over, and then use an 8 mm drill bit to drill holes (x4) in the APE CPUs and
UFS chips.
NotePlace a block of wood or other buffer material under the PCBA.
- Capture images of the drilled out chips, and upload the images to the MRB attachment section.

Dispose of the car
computer.
NoteFollow local laws and regulations for waste disposal.
Disposal Procedure (HW4.0 Car Computer)
- Use a trim tool to slide the SD card retaining tab over, and then use tweezers to remove the Gateway SD card from the car computer.

- Remove the screws (x6) that attach the front cover to the car computer, and then remove the front cover.
- Remove the bolts (x12) that attach the PCBA to the car computer housing, and then flip the PCBA over to expose the ICE CPU and eMMC chips.

Use an 8mm drill bit to
drill holes (x3) in the center of the CPU and eMMC and through the
PCBA.
NotePlace a block of wood or other buffer material under the PCBA.
- Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the coolant hose fittings to the rear of the car computer.
- Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the mounting bracket to the car computer, and then remove the mounting bracket.

Release the spring clips
(x2) that attach the coolant hoses to the car computer, and then remove the
coolant hoses.
NoteDrain excess coolant after removal of the hose.
- Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the rear cover to the car computer, and then remove the rear cover.
- Remove the screws (x18) that attach the APE PCBA to the car computer, and then take the APE PCBA out of the car computer.

Flip the APE PCBA board
over, and then use an 8 mm drill bit to drill holes (x6) in the center of
the APE CPUs and UFS chips.
NotePlace a block of wood or other buffer material under the PCBA.
- Capture images of the drilled out chips, and upload the images to the MRB attachment section.

Dispose of the car
computer.
