Assembly - Brake Booster and Master Cylinder (LHD) (Remove and Replace)

Replace

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door, and lower all windows.
  2. Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  3. Disconnect the LV battery power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
  4. Remove the front body controller module. See Module - Body Controller - Front (Gen 3) (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the wiper module. See Wiper Module (LHD) (Remove and Replace).
  6. Disconnect the connector under the brake fluid reservoir.
  7. Disconnect the harness connectors (x2) from the brake booster assembly.
  8. Remove the LH bolt that secures the front harness bracket.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 10 mm socket
  9. Place absorbent material underneath the brake booster and the reservoir area, clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir, and then remove the brake reservoir cap.
  10. Remove the fluid from the brake fluid reservoir by using a brake fluid syringe.
  11. Remove the nuts (x2) that attach the forward and the rear brake line to the brake booster.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12mm 12pt combination wrench
    • ¼ in to 3/8 in adapter
    • 12 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  12. Remove the clevis pin. See Clevis Pin - Brake Pedal (Remove and Replace).
  13. Remove and discard the nuts (x4) that attach the booster to the bulkhead.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 13 mm socket
    • 6 in extension
  14. Remove the brake booster assembly from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Position the brake booster assembly into the vehicle, and then install new nuts (x4) that attach the booster to the bulkhead.
    16.5 Nm (12.2 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 13 mm socket
    • 6 in extension

  2. Install the clevis pin to the brake pedal assembly. See Clevis Pin - Brake Pedal (Remove and Replace).
  3. Install the nuts (x2) that attach the rear and the forward brake lines to the brake booster.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12mm 12pt combination wrench
    • ¼ in to 3/8 in adapter
    • 12 mm socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  4. Install the brake reservoir cap, and then remove the absorbent material from underneath the brake booster and the reservoir area.
  5. Install the LH bolt that secures the front harness bracket.
    9 Nm (6.6 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 2 in extension
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
    • 10 mm socket
  6. Connect the harness connectors (x2) to the brake booster assembly.
  7. Connect the connector under the brake fluid reservoir.
  8. Install the wiper module. See Wiper Module (LHD) (Remove and Replace).
  9. Install the front body controller module. See Module - Body Controller - Front (Gen 3) (Remove and Replace).
  10. Connect the LV battery power. See LV Battery - Li-lon (Disconnect and Connect).
  11. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See Software Reinstall - Touchscreen.
  12. Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
  13. Raise and support the vehicle. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
  14. Bleed the braking system. See Brake Fluid Bleed/Flush (Maintenance).
  15. Install all four wheels. See #GUID-0B862D15-7178-4435-AEF2-0B40B8BEE686.
  16. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  17. Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
  18. Repeatedly press the brake pedal until firm.
  19. Perform a road test using a series of aggressive stops to make sure there is proper pedal feel and brake performance.
