Isolator - Mount - Front Upper Control Arm - LH (Remove and Replace)

Remove

  1. Inspect the vehicle for abnormal tire wear that might indicate the need for a wheel alignment. Note any findings.
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the cabin intake duct. See Assembly - Fresh Air Gutter - HVAC (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the access panel. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH shock tower cover. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Install).
  7. Release the clip that attaches the cowl screen panel to the vehicle.
  8. Use a paint pen to mark the position of the bolts (x4) that attach the LH front upper control arm mount to the body, and then remove the bolts.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 13 mm socket
    • 15 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  9. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  10. Release the clips (x2) that attach the LH front wheel speed sensor harness to the LH front upper control arm, and then set the harness aside.
  11. Remove and discard the nut that attaches the front stabilizer bar end link to the LH front strut and separate the end link from the strut.

    Note
    Counter-hold the ball joint while loosening the nut.
    Tip: If needed, use a pry bar to release the end link.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T40 socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  12. Remove the bolt and nut that attach the LH front upper control arm to the knuckle, and then discard the nut.

    Note
    Compress the upper control arm ball joint downwards to help release the bolt.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T50 socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  13. Pull the LH front spring and damper assembly outboard so that the front upper control arm mount clears the wheel arch liner.

    Note
    Maneuver the right side of the LH front upper control arm first.
    Tip: Hold the front upper control arm mount and use thumbs to push the wheel arch liner past the mount.
  14. Lift up on the LH front upper control arm mount isolator to remove it from the assembly.

    Take note of the LH front upper control arm mount isolator position upon removal.

Install

  1. Install the LH front upper control arm mount isolator to the LH front upper control arm mount.

    Note
    Apply grease to the locator pins (x2) of the isolator before installation.
  2. Move the LH coil spring module and front upper control arm mount assembly into position, making sure the control arm mount bolt holes are aligned with the bolt holes on the body.
  3. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the LH front upper control arm mount to the body.

    Make sure the larger and smaller bolts are installed in the correct locations.

    Note
    Line up the bolts with marks created during removal.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 13 mm socket
    • 15 mm socket
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  4. Position the front stabilizer end link onto the LH front strut, and then install a new nut that attaches the front stabilizer end link to the LH front strut.
    98 Nm (72.3 lbs-ft)

    Note
    Counter-hold the ball joint while torquing the nut.
    Tip: If needed, use a pry bar to help position the end link.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 18 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T40 socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  5. Position the LH front control arm to the knuckle, and then install the nut and a new bolt that attach the LH front upper control arm to the knuckle.
    56 Nm (41.3 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 15 mm combination wrench
    • Torx T50 socket
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • Flex head ratchet/flex head torque wrench
  6. Install the clips (x2) that attach the LH front wheel speed sensor harness to the LH front upper control arm.
  7. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  8. Install the clip that attaches the cowl screen panel to the vehicle.
  9. Install the LH shock tower cover. See Cover - Shock Tower - LH (Remove and Install).
  10. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  11. Install the access panel. See Cover - Hood Latch (Remove and Replace).
  12. Install the cabin intake duct. See Assembly - Fresh Air Gutter - HVAC (Remove and Replace).
  13. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  14. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
