Motor - Seat Tilt - Front Seat (Remove and Replace)

Seat base edges are sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat base.

Remove

  1. Remove the driver seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - LH (Remove and Replace).

    It is not necessary to remove the seat cushion button switch, the recliner button switch and the 8 way switch.
  2. Disconnect the electrical harness from the driver seat tilt motor connector.
  3. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the driver seat tilt motor to the seat frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless Ratchet/Impact Driver
    • 8 mm deep socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  4. Remove the bolt that attaches the driver seat tilt motor adjustment arm to the seat assembly, and then remove the driver seat tilt motor from the seat frame.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T40 socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench

Install

  1. Position the driver seat tilt motor to the seat frame for installation.

    Note
    Hold the tilt motor up and against the seat frame. Ensure the motor alignment pins are visible in the seat frame.
  2. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the driver seat tilt motor to the seat frame.
    7.5 Nm (5.5 lbs-ft)
  3. Install the bolt that attaches the driver seat tilt motor adjustment arm to the seat assembly.
    16 Nm (11.8 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T40 socket
    • Ratchet/torque wrench
  4. Connect the electrical harness to the driver seat tilt motor connector.
  5. Install the driver seat outboard side shield. See Side Shield - Outboard - LH (Remove and Replace).

    It is not necessary to install the the seat cushion button switch, the recliner button switch and the 8 way switch.
  6. Replacement front seat assemblies and seat cushion frame assemblies procured after June 2024 are equipped with a newly-designed Tesla "mini-tilt" motor, and replacing these parts (or the tilt motor itself) might require a configuration change. Review the configuration information in the table and perform the following substeps if a configuration update is needed.
    1. Access the Vehicle Configuration section of the Infotainment Dashboard. See Gateway Configuration (Display and Change).
    2. Update cfg_frontSeattype according to the combination of tilt motors described in the table.
  7. Use the touchscreen to enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  8. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock
  9. Use the vehicle touchscreen to perform seat calibration.
