Brake Pad Kit - Rear (Base Brakes) (Remove and Replace)

Remove
- Raise and support the vehicle. See GUID-0ECF2493-88F6-48E9-ADBB-9AE1D52E217C.html.
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Place absorbent material underneath the brake booster and reservoir area.
- Place the vehicle into EPB Service Mode. See Parking Brake - Caliper - Rear - LH (Release).
- Hold the brake pedal.
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then type "EPB Enter Service Mode" into the search field.

- Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ EPB Service Mode
- Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ EPB Service Mode

- Remove the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).

Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to
the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 17mm 12pt combination wrench
- 14 mm socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench
- Use the caliper spreader kit or similar tool to gently push the piston back into the caliper.
- Use a brake caliper S-hook to hang the LH rear caliper on the body.
- Remove the LH rear brake pads from the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
- Remove and discard the LH rear caliper abutment clips from the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
- Repeat step 10 through step 14 to remove the RH rear brake pads.
Install

Install new abutment clips
to the LH rear brake caliper bracket.
NoteUse new clips from the new brake pad kit.
- Apply an even layer of Silaramic lubricant to the left and right side edges of the LH front brake pads.
- Install the LH rear brake pads on the LH rear brake caliper bracket.

Install new bolts (x2) that
attach the LH rear brake caliper to the LH rear brake caliper bracket.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 17mm 12pt combination wrench
- 14 mm socket
- Ratchet/torque wrench
CAUTIONTo prevent damage to the flexible brake hose, make sure that the brake hose can bend forward and does not make contact with the wheel arch liner when the vehicle is lowered. - Repeat step 1 through step 4 to install the RH rear brake pads.
- Install the LH and RH rear wheels. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Hold the brake pedal.
- In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then type "End EPB Service Mode" into the search field.
- Click PROC_EPBL_STOP-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then type "End EPB Service Mode" into the search field.
- Click PROC_EPBR_STOP-SERVICE-MODEvia Toolbox: (link), click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Check the brake fluid reservoir and top off as necessary.
- Remove the absorbent material from underneath the brake booster and reservoir area.
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the lift arms from below the vehicle.

Perform one of the
following:
- If the brake pads
were not replaced in this procedure, perform a road test using a series
of aggressive stops and make sure that there is proper brake pedal feel
and brake performance.NoteAdd test drive correction code 00040100 as a separate activity to the Service Visit.
- If the brake pads
were replaced in this procedure, perform the brake pad burnishing

- If the brake pads
were not replaced in this procedure, perform a road test using a series
of aggressive stops and make sure that there is proper brake pedal feel
and brake performance.
