Clear Forward Camera View (Precision Cleaning Of Inboard Windshield)

Procedure

  1. Apply Zep/Invisible Glass Premium/Wurth windshield cleaner onto a microfiber towel (2084180-00-A/2084223-00-A) to clean the outside surface of the front windshield, then use a second dry microfiber towel to wipe the windshield in a circular motion until the windshield is basically dry. Verify the windshield has no stains or residue, then allow 1 minute to fully dry.
    • For Service Center technicians, use 2084180-00-A.
    • For mobile technicians, use 2084223-00-A.
  2. Use an LED flashlight to illuminate the outside surface of the windshield in the forward facing camera area, inspect and verify that the entire area is free of any hazing, fogginess, stains and residue.

    If the presence of haze, smudges or residue cannot be confirmed, proceed to remove the components to check.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Microfiber cloth (towel)
    • IPA Wipes
  3. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
  4. Remove the glare shield, but do not remove the GPS antenna from the glare shield. See Rearview Mirror -Rear View Mirror, Glare Shield (Remove and Replace).
  5. Clean the inside surface of the windshield in the forward facing camera area as follow:
    1. Use IPA wipes to wipe the entire area.
    2. Apply Zep/Invisible Glass Premium/Wurth windshield cleaner onto a clean microfiber towel and use the towel to wipe the entire area.
    3. Use another dry microfiber towel to wipe the entire area.
    4. Inspect and verify that the entire area is free of any hazing, fogginess, stains and residue.

    Clean the entire area thoroughly, including the edges and corners.

    For HW4 vehicles, pay special attention to ensure the notch is also clean.

  6. Clean the forward facing camera lenses as follows:
    1. Wipe each lens with IPA wipes.
    2. Before the lens surface dries, use a dry clean microfiber towel to clean the lens.
    3. Verify the lenses are free of any stains or residue.
  7. Install the bolts (x2) that attach the glare shield to the windshield bracket.
    1 Nm (.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Cordless hex driver
    • Torx T10 bit
    • Wiha Torque 0.8 Nm - 5 Nm screwdriver
  8. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  9. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  10. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Driver Assist > Cameras > Camera Preview, select Main/Wide/Narrow tabs to preview all forward facing cameras and assess the visual clarity.

    Ensure no residue or dirty is visible across all camera lenses. If the image is blurry or the visuals are impeded, perform the windshield and camera lenses cleaning steps again.
  11. Install all the other removed components. See Rearview Mirror -Rear View Mirror, Glare Shield (Remove and Replace).
  12. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Driver Assist > Cameras > Reset DAS to reset the driver assistance system.

    Ensure all camera indicators and the Reset DAS icon turn green on the touchscreen. If any of them is flagging red, investigate further for the reason.
  13. Exit Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  14. Raise the LH front window and close the LH front door.
