Module - Steering Column Control (Remove and Replace)

  • 2024-03-28: Removed ODIN routines from procedure as per latest validation.

Removal

  1. Fully lower and extend the steering column.
  2. Remove the steering wheel (refer to procedure).

    Note
    Ensure that the wheels are in the straight ahead position, and then mark the position of the steering wheel relative to the steering column with a paint pen before removing the steering wheel from the column.
  3. Remove the driver's side lower dash trim (refer to procedure).
  4. Release the clips (x2) that secure the steering column cover to the instrument cluster bezel.
  5. Carefully rock the control module 2-3 degrees back and forth to break the bond between the module and the steering column.
  6. Release the steering column controller module from the shaft.
  7. Remove and discard the airbag harness retaining clip from the steering column module harness connector.
  8. Disconnect the steering column module harness connector.
  9. Remove the steering control module from the vehicle.
  10. Remove the steering gap holder from the steering column control module.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Replace all nylon-insert locknuts.

Note
Clean the affected areas before installation.
  1. Replace the airbag harness retaining clip.
  2. Ensure that the pegs (x2) align with the slots in the steering column.

    Take care not to damage component(s).
  3. Reinstall the vehicle firmware. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen.
