Curtain Air Bag - 2nd Row - LH (Remove and Replace)

Note
In the event of an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment, certain airbag and seat belt components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to SRS Inspection and Component Replacement for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.

Removal

  1. Open both rear doors.
  2. Remove the rear door trim panel (refer to procedure).
  3. Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  4. Ensure that the first responder loop has been disconnected for at least 2 minutes.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the front of the curtain air bag.

  6. Remove and discard the bolts (x6) that secure the curtain air bag to the door. Remove the metal plate.

  7. Lift the curtain air bag straight up to release the fir tree clips (x4) from the door.

  8. Remove the curtain air bag from the vehicle.

    Store the airbag module with the deployment side facing up. This will prevent it from being propelled if accidentally deployed, which might cause injury.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Replace any broken clips.

Replace all patchbolt(s).
  1. Install the rear curtain air bag in the following order:
    1. Install the bolts (x2) that secure the inflator bracket to the door (torque 7 Nm).
    2. Install the fir tree clips (x4) that secure the curtain air bag into the door.

    3. Install the bolts (x2) that secure the metal plate (torque 7 Nm).

      CAUTION
      Ensure that the air bag is not twisted; it must be straight from the front to the rear.

      CAUTION
      Ensure that the tabs under the metal plate are not twisted.
    4. Install the outermost bolts (x2) that secure the curtain air bag to the door (torque 7 Nm).

      Ensure that the fabric tabs are not twisted.
    5. Connect the electrical connector at the front of the curtain air bag.
  2. If the component was replaced due to an internal failure:
    1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
    2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
    3. In Toolbox 3, click Dashboards > Service Tools > DTCs, and then select SDM or RCM depending on the vehicle Restraint Control Type.
    4. Click Read DTCs to display the DTCs.
    5. Power cycle the vehicle.
    6. Click Clear DTCs to clear the DTCs.
    7. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
