Module - Restraint Control - RCM (Remove and Replace)

Make sure 12V power has been disconnected for at least 2 minutes before disconnecting the electrical harness from Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components, such as modules, sensors, airbags, etc. Failure to do so can result in unintended safety system behaviors. While performing any Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) related repairs, it is important to disconnect 12 volt power. If the vehicle’s 12 volt power is NOT disconnected and the Restraint Control Module is removed or disturbed, this can result in the deployment of the vehicle’s airbags.

Note
In the event of an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment, certain airbag and seat belt components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to SRS Inspection and Component Replacement for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.

Removal

  1. Lower both front windows.
  2. Open all doors, the liftgate and hood.
  3. Remove the front seat inner riser Riser - Front Seats - Inner (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the front HVAC outlet duct.

  5. Disconnect the harness connectors (x2) from the restraint control module (RCM).

  6. Remove the T30 Torx bolts (x3) that attach the RCM to the body of the vehicle (torque 8 Nm).

    If necessary, carefully peel back the carpeting to gain access to the bolts.

  7. Remove the RCM from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
  1. Enable Service Mode. See Service Mode.
  2. Request a CAN ECU software reinstall: on the touchscreen, touch Controls > Service Mode > Software reinstall > CAN ECU > Reinstall.
  3. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  4. Unlock the vehicle Gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  5. In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "RCM" into the search field, select PROC_RCM_X_SERVICE-TASKS, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    This routine is only available if the vehicle runs firmware version 2024.8 or later.
  6. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  7. Exit Service Mode.
  8. Sit in the driver’s seat. Step on the brake pedal to turn on the drive rail to cycle the power on the vehicle.
  9. Ensure that the airbag safety indicator light displays on the instrument cluster during vehicle startup and then turns off after 6 seconds.
  10. Calibrate the falcon doors through the touchscreen.
