Motor - Seat Tilt - Driver's Seat (Remove and Replace)

Seat base edges are sharp and can cause personal injury. Wear cut resistant gloves when removing the seat from the vehicle, and while performing procedures that involve work on or near the seat base.

Removal

  1. Open the LH doors and lower the LH windows.
  2. Move the driver seat height to its highest position.

    CAUTION
    Do not allow the seat headrest to compress the sun visor as it might crack the mirror.
  3. Remove front screw securing LH outer seat trim assembly

  4. Remove partially LH outer seat trim assembly

    1x clip, Do not fully remove, possible damage to the trim/switch pack/harness
  5. Disconnect the seat switch connector.
  6. Slide the driver seat outer cover rearwards to release the clips that attach the cover to rear of the seat frame, and then lift up the remove the cover.
  7. Disconnect the seat tilt motor connector and harness.
  8. Remove the outboard nuts (x3) that secure the seat tilt motor to the seat (torque 7.5 Nm).
  9. Remove and discard the inboard screw that secures the seat tilt motor to the seat frame (torque 16 Nm).
  10. Remove the seat tilt motor.

Installation

  1. Position the tilt motor to seat cushion frame for installation.
  2. Install the outboard nuts (x3) that secure the seat tilt motor to the seat (torque 7.5 Nm).
  3. Install a new inboard screw (1109741-00-E) that secures the seat tilt motor to the seat frame (torque 16 Nm).
  4. Connect the seat tilt motor connector and harness.
  5. Install partially LH outer seat trim assembly.
  6. Connect the seat switch connector.
  7. Secure the LH outer seat trim assembly (1 clip).
  8. Install front screw securing LH outer seat trim assembly.

  9. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock
  10. Replacement front seat assemblies and seat cushion frame assemblies are equipped with a newly-designed "mini-tilt" motor, and replacing these parts (or the tilt motor itself) might require a configuration change. Review the configuration information in the table and perform the following substeps if a configuration update is needed.

    1. Access the Vehicle Configuration section of the Infotainment Dashboard. See Gateway Configuration (Display and Change).
    2. Update cfg_frontSeattype according to the combination of tilt motors described in the table.
  11. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): PROC_MSMD_VCSEATD-FRONT-DRV_CALIBRATE-MEMORY-SEATvia Service Mode:Low Voltage ➜ Seats ➜ Calibrate Driver Seatvia Toolbox:(link)
  12. Exit Service Mode or disconnect the laptop if applicable (see 0005 - Service Modes).
