Hose - Inlet - Front Drive Unit (Remove & Replace)

This procedure is for vehicles built after April 24, 2019.

Remove

  1. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2-post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift .
  2. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Center - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace) .
  4. Remove the underhood storage carpet. See Carpet - Underhood Storage (Remove and Install).
  5. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace) .
  6. Remove the HEPA filter. See Filter - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  7. Disconnect 12V power and first responder loop. See Disconnect 12V Power .
  8. Remove the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install) .
  9. Remove the LH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace) .
  10. Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace) .
  11. Remove the mid aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Mid (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the front extrusion bash plate. See Bash Plate - Front - Extrusion (Remove and Replace) .
  13. Remove the HV battery assembly. See HV Battery (AWD) (Remove and Install) .
  14. Put the coolant drain container under the vehicle to catch any coolant during the next step.
  15. Release the spring clip that attaches the inlet hose to the front drive unit assembly.
  16. Release the fir tree clip that attaches the inlet hose to the front drive unit HV harness bracket.
  17. Partially lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height.
  18. Release the hose clamp that attaches the inlet hose to the powertrain coolant pump 2, and then disconnect the hose from the pump.

    Note
    Hold the hose clamp open with pliers, and then push off the hose of the pump with a clip prytool.
  19. Remove the inlet hose from the vehicle.

    Remove the inlet hose from above the powertrain coolant pump 2.

Install

  1. Position the new inlet hose onto the vehicle for installation.

    Note
    Make sure that the inlet hose is properly installed: Route the inlet hose above the powertrain coolant pump 2.
  2. Install the hose clamp that attaches the inlet hose to the powertrain coolant pump 2.
  3. Raise the vehicle fully.
  4. Install the fir tree clip that attaches the inlet hose to the front drive unit HV harness bracket.
  5. Install the inlet hose to the front drive unit assembly and secure it with the spring clip.
  6. Remove the coolant drain container from under the vehicle.
  7. Install the HV battery assembly. See HV Battery (AWD) (Remove and Install) .
  8. Install the front extrusion bash plate. See Bash Plate - Front - Extrusion (Remove and Replace) .
  9. Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace) .
  10. Install the LH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace) .
  11. Install the LH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install) .
  12. Reconnect 12V power and first responder loop. See Disconnect 12V Power .
  13. Perform a coolant purge. See Cooling System - Partial Refill and Bleed.
  14. Top off the coolant reservoir.
  15. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle and reinstall the storage cubby.
  16. Install the HEPA filter. See Filter - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  17. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace) .
  18. Install the underhood storage carpet. See Carpet - Underhood Storage (Remove and Install).
  19. Touch and hold the CALIBRATE button on the Model X touchscreen until the rear doors have been fully calibrated, close completely, and the message "CALIBRATION COMPLETE" is displayed.
