Battery Chiller and EXV Assembly (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Recover refrigerant from the vehicle, see A/C Refrigerant Recovery and Recharge (Remove and Replace).
  2. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  3. Remove the front fascia. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove the active louver. See Active Louver - Center (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the cooling fan module. See Cooling Fan Module (Remove and Install).
  6. Remove the condenser to chiller high/low pressure pipes. See Pipes - High/Low Pressure - Condenser to Chiller (Remove and Replace).

    Note
    Do not remove the EXV valve from the battery chiller.
  7. Place absorbent material around the coolant hose fittings of the battery chiller, so as to absorb any spilled coolant.
  8. Install hose clamps onto both battery chiller coolant hoses.

  9. Release the locking ring that attaches a coolant hose to the battery chiller, disconnect the hose from the chiller, and immediately plug the hose and plug/cap the battery chiller fitting.
  10. Repeat for the other battery chiller coolant hose.
  11. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the battery chiller and EXV assembly to the front subframe, and then remove the assembly from the vehicle (torque 12 Nm).

Installation

  1. Inspect the condition of the O-rings and replace those which are mishapen, worn, damaged, or cut.
  2. Lubricate all new O-rings with clean refrigerant oil.
  3. Install the battery chiller and EXV assembly to the front subframe, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the assembly to the subframe (torque 12 Nm).

    Note
    The battery chiller and EXV assembly installs with the arrow pointing the to rear of the vehicle.

  4. Remove the plug/cap from a battery chiller fitting, remove the plug from the respective battery chiller coolant hose, immediately connect the hose to the chiller, and then fasten the locking ring that attaches the coolant hose to the chiller.
  5. Repeat for the other battery chiller coolant hose.
  6. Remove the hose clamps from both battery chiller coolant hoses.

  7. Remove the absorbent material from around the coolant hose fittings of the battery chiller.
  8. Install the condenser to chiller high/low pressure pipes. See Pipes - High/Low Pressure - Condenser to Chiller (Remove and Replace).
  9. Install the cooling fan module. See Cooling Fan Module (Remove and Install).
  10. Install the active louver. See Active Louver - Center (Remove and Replace).
  11. Install the front fascia. See Fascia Assembly - Front (Remove and Install).
  12. Connect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  13. Recharge the refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant Recovery and Recharge (Remove and Replace).
  14. Refill and bleed the cooling system. See Cooling System - Partial Refill and Bleed.
