Windshield (Vehicles with 2nd Generation or Later Autopilot Hardware) (Remove and Replace)
Correction Code 10200302
- 2024-12-10: Added new caution about Pre-Installation Glass Inspection service requirements.
- 2024-04-11: Added a step of cleaning the windshield, especially the forward-facing camera area, to ensure a clear view of the forward-facing camera.

CAUTION
For Europe only: Only technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.
CAUTION
New glass components (windshield, roof, door, and fixed glass) must be inspected before installation to meet Tesla’s internal standards of quality. Perform the inspection described in Pre-Installation Glass Inspection before beginning this procedure.

Remove
- Open LH front door
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).

Remove LH wiper arm assembly
Note1x nut, 17mm, 35 Nm, Disconnect washer hoses at cowl

Remove RH wiper arm assembly
Note2x nuts, 17mm, 35 Nm, Disconnect washer hoses at cowl
-
Remove LH outer hood hinge cover
Note1x fir tree clip, 1x clip
-
Remove RH outer hood hinge cover
Note1x fir tree clip, 1x clip
-
Disconnect cowl drain hose from cowl trim
Note1x hose clamp
- Disconnect washer hose to cowl at one-way valve
-
Remove cowl screen from windshield
Note5x push clips, 1x windshield washer hose, 1x drain hose clamp

Record gap and flushness values of windshield at the following points: Windshield to roof applique, Windshield to middle of A-pillar, Windshield to cowl (gap only)
NoteValues only used if specs cannot be achieved due to body fitment concerns
- Tape body around windshield

Using MCU, open both falcon doors

Remove LH side sun visor bezel
Note6x clips, Release bezel at ends and slide towards front of vehicle to release

Remove the nut from the top of the LH side upper A-pillar trim
Note1x nyloc nut, 13mm, 5 Nm, Discard after removal

Remove the screw from the top of the LH side upper A-pillar trim
Note1x screw, T20, 2 Nm

Remove the bolts that secure the LH side upper A-pillar trim to the body
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm
-
Disconnect the electrical connections for the microphone and tweeter on the LH side
Note2x electrical connectors

Remove the LH side upper A-pillar trim
Note4x clips

Disconnect the harness connector for the LH sun visor
Note1x electrical connector

Remove the harness retaining clip from the A-pillar bracket
Note1x retaining clip

Remove the fastener holding the A-pillar bracket to the body
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 4 Nm, Remove the fastener closest to the sun visor assembly, Removing this fastener will allow the bracket to be lifted when the sun visor is ready to be removed

Remove the fasteners securing the LH sun visor to the body and remove the sun visor
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm

Remove RH side sun visor bezel
Note6x clips, Release bezel at ends and slide towards front of vehicle to release

Remove the nut from the top of the RH side upper A-pillar trim
Note1x nut, 13mm, 5 Nm, Discard nut after removal

Remove the screw from the top of the RH side upper A-pillar trim
Note1x screw, T20, 2 Nm

Remove the bolts that secure the RH side upper A-pillar trim to the body
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm

Disconnect the electrical connections for the microphone and tweeter on the RH side

Note1x bolt, 10mm, 4 Nm, Remove the fastener closest to the sun visor assembly, Removing this fastener will allow the bracket to be lifted when the sun visor is ready to be removed

Remove the fasteners securing the RH sun visor to the body and remove the sun visor

Disconnect windshield heater connector

- Tape windshield heater connector to glass

Lower front middle part of headliner
Note2x screws, T20, 2 Nm, 3x clips, Lower headliner just a bit for accessing connectors and avoiding damage while cutting windshield, Starting from front middle
- Tape leading edge of headliner to prevent damage during windshield removal

Place rolled up towels between front headliner and body to create space

Clear the camera calibration data using the vehicle touchscreen: Controls > Service > Camera Calibration > Clear Calibration.
WarningWhenever a camera has been moved out of its original position (as described in the following steps), camera calibration data must be cleared.

Remove triple cam rear view mirror lower cover
Note4x tabs, pull down to release clips

Remove rear view mirror
Note1x connector, Rotate clock-wise or counter clock-wise

Remove triple cam rear view mirror cover
Note2x screws, T10, 0.8 Nm, Pull down to release clips

Disconnect humidity sensor and heating element connectors

Remove inline triple cam assembly
Note4x screws, T10, 3 Nm

Remove 12V OHC cover assembly
NoteCover assembly is clipped into windshield harness bracket

Remove windshield harness from windshield bracket
NoteUse plastic trim tool to release harness from windshield bracket

Remove triple cam glare shield
Note2x screws, T10, 0.8 Nm
- Cut length of square wire
- Secure wire to starter tool and push tool through urethane at lower RH side
- Remove wire from starter tool and secure to T-handles
- Pull wire starter tool back through into vehicle

Use T-handles to cut urethane securing windshield to body
NoteRecommend assistance, Use caution around two small datums at top of windshield, Use protective material to prevent damage to the speaker grill, heated wiper grid area, and VIN plate, Maintain downward angle near RH side of front edge to avoid contacting heater grid solder points
- Cut square wire and remove from vehicle and T-handles

Attach suction cups to windshield

Lift up to remove windshield from vehicle

- Remove suction cups from windshield

Remove tape from exterior of both A-pillars and headliner
NoteInspect for any nicks that may need touch up or any damage to the headliner
- Clean and remove old adhesive from the windshield frame
Install
- Clean the windshield as needed. Take special caution to the forward-facing camera area to ensure a clear view of the forward-facing camera. See Clear Forward Camera View (Precision Cleaning Of Inboard Windshield).

Install suction cups onto windshield glass assembly

Position windshield onto vehicle for dry fit

Lift up to remove windshield from vehicle

Wipe urethane path on vehicle and glass with IPA to clean
NoteEnsure inside of glass is clean and smudge free near VIN plate as it won't be accessible once installed

Apply primer onto windshield frame

Prepare caulking gun and urethane
NoteOpening must be 8mm wide and 14mm tall
- Apply urethane following primer path on windshield

Align windshield and apply pressure to all four corners of the glass

- Apply tape to windshield to secure to body

Install glare shield

Install windshield harness to harness bracket

Install mono cam 12V OHC cover assembly
NoteCover assembly is clipped into windshield harness bracket, Make sure 12V harness is routed inside the cover guide

Install inline triple camera and bracket assembly
Note4x screws, T10, 0.8 Nm

Connect windshield harness to humidity sensor and heating element
Note2x connectors, Secure to glare shield

Install triple cam rear view mirror cover
Note2x screws, T10, 0.8 Nm, 2x clips, 2x tabs, Push up to secure clips

Install rear view mirror
Note1x connector, Rotate clock-wise or counter clock-wise

Install triple cam rear view mirror lower cover
Note4x tabs

Remove towels and tape from headliner
Note2x towels

Position front of headliner and install fasteners
Note2x screws, T20, 2 Nm

Connect windshield heater harness

Position the RH sun visor into vehicle for installation and install the fasteners securing the new RH sun visor to the body
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm, The A-pillar bracket fits over the forward edge of the sun visor base

Install the fastener holding the A-pillar bracket to the body
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 4 Nm,

Connect the harness connector for the RH sun visor
Note1x electrical connector

Install the harness retaining clip to the A-pillar bracket
Note1x retaining clip

Position the RH side upper A-pillar trim for installation

Connect the electrical connections for the microphone and tweeter on the RH side

Install the RH upper A-pillar trim to the body

Install the bolts that secure the RH side upper A-pillar trim to the body

Install the screw for the top of the RH side upper A-pillar trim

Install the nut for the top of the RH side upper A-pillar trim
Note1x nut, 13mm, 5 Nm, Install new nyloc nut

Install RH sun visor bezel and place sun visor back in its holster
Note6x clips, position bezel at ends and secure into place

Position the LH sun visor into vehicle for installation and install the fasteners securing the new LH sun visor to the body
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm, The A-pillar bracket fits over the forward edge of the sun visor base

Install the fastener holding the A-pillar bracket to the body
Note1x bolt, 10mm, 4 Nm,

Connect LH side sun visor connector and install clip

Install the harness retaining clip to the A-pillar bracket

Position the LH side upper A-pillar trim for installation

Connect the electrical connections for the microphone and tweeter on the LH side

Install the LH upper A-pillar trim to the body

Install the bolts that secure the LH side upper A-pillar trim to the body

Install the screw for the top of the LH side upper A-pillar trim

Install the nut for the top of the LH side upper A-pillar trim
Note1x nyloc nut, 13mm, 5 Nm, install new nyloc nut

Install LH sun visor bezel and place sun visor back in its holster
Note6x clips, position bezel at ends and secure into place

Remove cowl screen from windshield
Note5x push clips, 1x windshield washer hose, 1x drain hose clamp

Install drain hose to cowl screen
Note1x hose clamp

Install wiper drain hose to one-way valve
Note1x washer hose

Install LH wiper arm
Note1x nut, 17mm, 35 Nm, Align tip of wiper blade to mark on windshield

Install RH wiper arm
Note2x nuts, 17mm, 35 Nm, Align tip of wiper blade to mark on windshield

Install RH outer hood hinge cover
Note1x fir tree clip, 1x clip

Install LH outer hood hinge cover
Note1x fir tree clip, 1x clip
- Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
- Close the RH front door.

Perform forward facing camera pitch verification. See Camera - Forward Facing (Pitch Verification).
CAUTIONAutopilot features might be reduced if camera pitch is not verified.
- If a new temperature and humidity sensor was installed: Reinstall the latest vehicle firmware, or update the firmware if not the latest. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen or Firmware Update.

Disconnect laptop from vehicle and reinstall storage cubby
