Glass - Rear Quarter Window - LH (Remove and Install)

Warning
To avoid personal injury, wear
cut-resistant gloves when performing this operation.
Note
Use Dow Betaseal Express
fast-curing glass adhesive to perform this procedure.
CAUTION
For Europe only: Only technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.
Removal
- Remove the LH upper C-pillar trim (refer to procedure).
- Apply painter's tape to the body panel adjacent to the rear quarter window glass.
- Apply painter's tape onto the LH rear quarter glass assembly and body, and then mark the current position to aid in installation.
- Use an adhesive cutting tool (such as a glazing wire, Equalizer hand blade, or Equalizer 360) to cut the adhesive at one of the corners of the rear quarter window glass.
- Cut an appropriate length of glazing wire and insert it into the cutting tool.

Push the adhesive cutting
tool through where the adhesive was cut previously. Pull the wire through
and remove the adhesive cutting tool.
NoteStart from the rear of the vehicle and use an adhesive cutting tool as required. Remove any broken locator clips from the vehicle interior.

Connect the T-handles to the
glazing wire.
NoteUse an assistant for the remainder of the removal steps to make removal easier.

Cut out the rear quarter
window glass with the adhesive cutting tool.

- Remove the rear quarter window glass from the vehicle.
Installation

Remove remaining urethane
from the rear quarter glass using an adhesive scraper and IPA wipes.
CAUTIONTake care not to damage the rear quarter glass.

Remove remaining urethane
from the surrounding body and trim components using an adhesive scraper and
IPA wipes. Allow the alcohol to dry fully before continuing to the next
step.

Apply primer to the rear quarter window mounting area as directed by the adhesive manufacturer. Make sure that the primer fully covers any nicks or scratches in the paint.
WarningCheck the expiration date of the primer and adhesive before use.NoteCheck the primer and adhesive packaging for the appropriate working times for each product. Prepare the necessary tools and work environment so that the glass can be installed within the specified working times.
- Clean the etched area of the glass with alcohol wipes. Allow the alcohol to dry fully before continuing to the next step.

Apply primer to the etched area of the glass as directed by the adhesive manufacturer.
NoteCheck the primer packaging for the appropriate wait time before applying adhesive.

Apply the adhesive to the etched area of the rear quarter window glass.
NoteCut a triangular cross-section into the applicator approximately 8 mm wide and 14 mm tall.

Install the rear quarter window glass.
NoteAlign the quarter glass assembly with the previously created marks on the masking tape from the body.WarningDo not drive the vehicle until the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended minimum drive-away time has passed. Dow Betaseal Express has a drive-away time of 1 hour minimum in temperatures of 0˚F (-18˚C) or warmer. If necessary, leave the tape applying pressure to the glass on the vehicle and advise the customer that they can remove it after 24 hours. Additionally, advise the customer that they should avoid high driving speeds and speed bumps for the next 24 hours.NoteMake sure that the gaps between the glass and the rear quarter are even.
- Have an assistant use a hose to spray water along the edges of the rear quarter window glass. Make sure that no water leaks into the interior.
- Remove the painter's tape.
- Reinstall the LH upper C-pillar trim (refer to procedure).
