Correction Code 31105002

Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
Note
When replacing an air spring module for failure, inspect all air spring modules for leak, wear, or reduced performance, and replace them as necessary.

Special tools required for this procedure:

Part Number Description
1079041-00-A Flare nut crowfoot set

Removal

  1. Remove the rear center apron and inspect the vehicle for a Schrader fill valve on the RH shock tower. See Underhood Apron - Center - Rear (Remove and Replace).
    • If the vehicle does not have a Schrader fill valve, install it now. See Fill Valve - Air (Retrofit). Then continue to the next step.
    • If the vehicle has a Schrader fill valve, continue to the next step.
  2. Raise the vehicle and depressurize the front LH air spring module. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - One Air Spring.
  3. Remove the front LH arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace) .
  4. Use a stand to partially support the front LH suspension.
  5. Remove the bolt that secures the bottom of the air spring module to the lower control arm (torque 140 Nm).
  6. Remove the bolt that secures the upper control arm ball joint to the knuckle (torque 60 Nm).
  7. Remove the bolt that secures the brake line bracket to the air spring module (torque 7 Nm).
  8. Release the wheel speed sensor harness from the bracket on the control arm.
  9. Remove the stand and lower the vehicle to a working height.
  10. Release the clips that secure the 12V harness to the rear of the fusebox bracket.
  11. Release the screws that secure the fusebox bracket to the body (torque 7 Nm).
  12. Gently pull the fusebox forward to gain access to the shock tower.
  13. Use a crowfoot extension to release the fitting for the air suspension line (blue) from the top of the front LH shock tower (torque 2 Nm).
  14. For each released end of an air suspension line, use a flat blade screwdriver to snap off the old collet, and discard the collet and nut (VOSS fitting).
  15. Remove the nuts that secure the front LH air spring module to the shock tower (torque 39 Nm).
  16. Carefully remove the air spring module from the vehicle.

CAUTION
Only fully tighten suspension nuts and bolts when the vehicle is on a 4-post lift and the suspension is in the ride height position.

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. Install and hand-tighten a new collet and nut (VOSS fitting).

    Note
A plastic plug holds the fitting together before and during installation.
  2. Remove the plastic plug from the new fitting.
  3. Tighten the new fitting (torque 2 Nm).
  4. Insert the air suspension line fully into the fitting, and then lightly pull on the line to make sure that it is secure.
  5. Make sure that all air suspension lines are securely reconnected before continuing.
  6. Refill the air suspension system with Nitrogen. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - Full System.

    Note
If the front LH air spring module was replaced because of a leak, perform the additional steps to purge the accumulated moisture from the dryer.
  7. Refill the front LH air spring. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - One Air Spring.
  8. Raise the vehicle on a 4-post lift and torque all suspension components while the vehicle is at ride height.
  9. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
