Note
When replacing an air spring module for failure, inspect all air spring modules for leak, wear, or reduced performance, and replace them as necessary.

Special tools required for this procedure:

Part Number Description
1079041-00-A Flare nut crowfoot set

Removal

  1. Support the vehicle on a 2-post lift, but do not raise it at this stage. SeeRaise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
  2. Open the LH front door and lower the window.
  3. Enable Jack Mode. SeeJack Mode Activation.
  4. Depressurize the front LH air spring module. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - One Air Spring.
  5. Remove the rear center underhood apron. SeeUnderhood Apron - Center - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the LH front wheel.
  7. Release the wheel speed sensor harnes from the LH front knuckle and body.
  8. Release the LH damper harness connectors (x2) from the LH front air spring module.
  9. Release the LH adaptive adaptive air spring module harness from the bracket.
  10. Release the tabs (x2) that attach the LH damper harness bracket to the LH front air spring module.
  11. Remove the bolt (torque 6 Nm) that attaches the flexible brake hose bracket to the LH air spring module.
  12. Remove the nut and bolt (torque 140 Nm) that attach the LH front air spring module to the LH front lower aft link assembly.
  13. Remove the nut (torque 60 Nm) that attaches the upper control arm ball joint to the knuckle, and then disconnect the LH knuckle from the upper control arm.

    Note
Compress the upper control arm ball joint to the knuckle, and then remove the bolt. Support the knuckle while the ball joint is released.
  14. Lower the vehicle to a comfortable working height.
  15. Release the nut that (2 Nm) attaches the air line fitting to the LH air spring module.

    Note
Once air leak can be heard, stop turning until all air is released.
  16. For each released end of an air suspension line, use a flat blade screwdriver to snap off the old collet, and discard the collet and nut (VOSS fitting).
  17. Remove the nuts (torque 39 Nm) that attach the front LH air spring module to the shock tower.
  18. Carefully remove the air spring module from the vehicle.

CAUTION
Only fully tighten suspension nuts and bolts when the vehicle is on a 4-post lift and the suspension is in the ride height position.

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. Install and hand-tighten a new collet and nut (VOSS fitting).

    Note
A plastic plug holds the fitting together before and during installation.
  2. Remove the plastic plug from the new fitting.
  3. Tighten the new fitting (torque 2 Nm).
  4. Insert the air suspension line fully into the fitting, and then lightly pull on the line to make sure that it is secure.
  5. Make sure that all air suspension lines are securely reconnected before continuing.
  6. Refill the air suspension system with Nitrogen. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - Full System .

    Note
If the front LH air spring module was replaced because of a leak, perform a full system depressurization, followed by a full fill (to very high and fully charged reservoir) to purge the accumulated moisture from the dryer. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - Full System.
  7. Raise the vehicle on a 4-post lift and t Torque all suspension components while the vehicle is at ride height.
  8. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
