Brake Pads and Rotors - Front - Set

- Open LH front door.

Raise and support vehicle.
NoteSet air suspension to Jack Mode, Via Controls > Service > Jack Mode, Raise lift until arms contact the lift points
- Remove RH front lug nut covers (x5).

Loosen RH front lug nuts.
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
- Remove LH front lug nut covers (x5).

Loosen LH front lug nuts.
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm

Raise vehicle partially and lower onto locks.
NoteSet vehicle to comfortable working height, make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side.

Remove RH front wheel.

Remove LH front wheel.
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
- Turn front wheels fully right.

Remove pins and anti-rattle spring from LH front caliper.
NoteHold spring while removing pin, Remove upper pin first, Air hammer may be required to remove stuck pins
-
Press inner and outer brake pads out to push caliper pistons back into LH front caliper.
NoteWrap a shop rag around the caliper to protect the finish if using pliers, Air hammer may be required to free stuck pads

Remove brake pads from LH front caliper.
NotePuller or air hammer may be required to free stuck pads

Use hand brush and brake cleaner to clean LH front caliper pad slides and pistons.
NoteUse nylon brush on painted calipers, Allow brake cleaner to dry, replace caliper if excessive corrosion is found.

Apply Silaramic lubricant to both LH front inner and outer pads on caliper pad slides.
Notekeep lubricant off pad friction material, only on backing plate.

Use hand brush and brake cleaner to clean LH front caliper pins and anti-rattle spring.
NoteReplace pins and spring if there is excessive corrosion or damage to components.

Install LH front inner and outer brake pads.
NoteDo not allow any lubricant to get onto friction surfaces, Clean friction surfaces with brake cleaner if necessary.

Install anti-rattle spring and caliper pins for LH front caliper.
NoteInstall lower pin first, make sure both pins are fully seated.
- Center front wheels.

Remove bolts securing LH rear brake caliper to knuckle.
Note2x bolts, 18mm, 120 Nm, Support the caliper with “S” hook.

Remove LH front brake caliper from LH front knuckle assembly and hang.
NoteSupport the caliper with “S” hook
-
Remove bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.
Note1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Discard patch bolt after removal.
- Remove brake rotor from hub and bearing assembly.

Install LH front brake rotor onto hub and bearing assembly.
NoteAlign bolt hole in rotor to hub for next step.

Install bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.
Note1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Install new patch bolt
- Remove LH front brake caliper from brake caliper S-hook.
-
Position and install LH front brake caliper onto LH front knuckle assembly.
Note2x bolts, 18mm, 120 Nm
-
Install LH front wheel.
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm, Start lug nuts by hand before using power tool
- Turn front wheels fully to the left.

Remove pins and anti-rattle spring from RH front caliper.
NoteHold spring while removing pin, Remove upper pin first, Air hammer may be required to remove stuck pins

Press inner and outer brake pads out to push caliper pistons back into RH front caliper.
NoteWrap a shop rag around the caliper to protect the finish if using pliers, Air hammer may be required to free stuck pads

Remove brake pads from RH front caliper.
NotePuller or air hammer may be required to free stuck pads

Use hand brush and brake cleaner to clean RH front caliper pad slides and pistons.

Remove the bolts securing the RH front brake caliper to the knuckle.
Note2x bolts, 18mm, 120 Nm
- Remove the RH front brake caliper from the knuckle and hang.

Remove bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.
Note1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Discard patch bolt after removal
- Remove brake rotor from hub and bearing assembly.

Install LH front brake rotor onto hub and bearing assembly.
NoteAlign bolt hole in rotor to hub for next step
-
Install bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.
Note1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Install new patch bolt
- Remove the RH front brake caliper from the S-hook.

Position and install RH front brake caliper onto RH front knuckle assembly.
Note2x bolts, 18mm, 120 Nm
-
Install RH front wheel.
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm, Thread nuts on by hand
-
Lower vehicle until tires are touching ground.
NoteRaise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered
-
Torque LH front wheel.
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
- Install LH front lug nut covers (x5).

Torque RH front wheel.
Note5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
- Install RH front lug nut covers (x5).

Remove vehicle from lift.
NoteLower rack arms fully and move them from under vehicle, Remove air suspension from "Jack Mode", Via Controls > Service > Jack Mode

Pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure the pedal feels normal.
NoteCheck for a short, firm travel when the brakes are applied, If the brake pedal is soft, bleed the complete system
- Close LH front door.

Burnish the brakes. See Brake Pads - Park Brake - Burnishing.
NoteDuring vehicle driving, make sure that proper brake pedal feel and performance is achieved.NoteAdd the correction code for brake pad burnishing 33013000 as a separate activity to the Service Visit.
