Coolant Heater - Electric - Battery (Remove and Replace)
Correction Code 18307302
Warning
Only technicians who have been
trained in High Voltage (HV) Awareness and have completed all required
certification courses (if applicable) are permitted to perform this procedure.
Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a
minimum rating of class 0 (1000V) must be worn any time a high voltage cable is
handled. Refer to Tech Note TN-15-92-003, "High Voltage Awareness
Care Points" for additional safety information.
Removal
- Remove the HEPA filter duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the HV Battery. See HV Battery (AWD) (Remove and Install).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Lift the rear cowl for access.
-
Disconnect the gray connector from the forward junction box (FJB).
-
Maneuver the electric
coolant heater cable past the HV FDU cable towards the bottom of the
vehicle.
- Lift the vehicle.
-
Install a coolant clamp on
the electric coolant heater to DC-DC hose.
-
Remove the bolt and nut
(torque 7 Nm) that attach the electric coolant heater to the body.
-
Position a coolant drain
container under the front of the vehicle.
-
Remove the lower coolant
hose from the electric coolant heater.
-
Release the clips (x2) that
attach the electric coolant heater cable to the bulkhead.
-
Remove the nut (torque 7 Nm)
and clip that attach the FDU HV cable to the electric coolant heater.
NoteThis step is not applicable for Raven vehicles.
-
Rotate the DC-DC coolant
hose clamp 90° upwards.
NoteThis is to obtain clearance for the battery heater, and only applies to Raven vehicles. Re-adjust the hose clamp pliers as needed.
-
Disconnect the electric
coolant heater logic connector.
-
Release the electric coolant
heater connector from the bracket.
-
Remove the electric coolant
heater bracket.
Note3x bolts (non-Raven) or 2x bolts (Raven), torque 8 Nm. Move battery heater as needed.
-
Release the hose clamp, and
then remove the electric coolant heater from the vehicle.
NoteTake care not to damage the brake lines.
Installation
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
- Make sure that the coolant hoses are not kinked.
- Perform a coolant air purge. See Cooling System - Partial Refill and Bleed.
