Pre-Tensioner - Outboard Lap - 1st Row - LH (Remove and Replace)

Note
In the event of an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment, certain airbag and seat belt components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to SRS Inspection and Component Replacement for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.

Removal

  1. Remove the driver's seat outer riser (refer to procedure).
  2. Use a trim tool to remove the plastic cap that covers the pretensioner anchor bolt on the LH 1st row seatbelt.
  3. Remove the anchor bolt and inboard upper pretensioner cover (torque 9 Nm).

    CAUTION
    Replace all patchbolt(s).
  4. Discard the anchor bolt and inboard upper pretensioner cover.
  5. Carefully release the seatbelt assembly from the outer pretensioner cover.
  6. Wrap the seatbelt connector with protective tape to prevent it from damaging interior trim.
  7. Remove the lower B-pillar trim (refer to procedure).
  8. Release the push clip that secures the front carpet to the body of the vehicle.
  9. Use a trim tool to release the clips that secure the inboard and outboard covers from the inner seat riser.
  10. Remove and discard the bolts (x2) that secure the inner seat riser to the body of the vehicle (torque 34 Nm). Remove the washers (x2).

    Note
    The inner seat riser cannot be removed from the vehicle; it is connected to the passenger's inner seat riser.
  11. Fold the front carpet towards the front of the vehicle.
  12. Use an inflatable wedge to lift the foam block.

    CAUTION
    Do not overinflate the inflatable wedge; lifting the false floor too much can damage the false floor.
  13. Alternate loosening the front and rear bolts that secure the pre-tensioner until the pre-tensioner is free (torque the front bolt that secures the bracket 5 Nm; torque the rear bolt that secures the pre-tensioner 40 Nm).

    There is a push nut on both bolts.
  14. Disconnect the electrical connector from the front of the pre-tensioner.

    Make sure that 12V power is still disconnected.
  15. Remove the pre-tensioner from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

CAUTION
If discarding the entire seat, Service Centers must remove the seat-mounted airbag and pre-tensioner (if present) before discarding the seat. Follow local Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) best practices to dispose of the airbag and pre-tensioner (for example, place the airbag and pre-tensioner into the appropriate hazardous waste receptacles located in the Service Center). Refer to Remove the Front Seat Airbag and Discard for instructions, and use Correction Code 20010707 to document the labor; the labor time for destructively removing and disposing of the front seat airbag (and pre-tensioner, if equipped) is not reflected in the front seat removal and replacement labor time.

Replace all patchbolt(s).

Position the pretensioner and fixed end of the seatbelt over the bolt hole.

2 Fixed end of the seatbelt aligned over the pretensioner and bolt hole
If the component was replaced due to an internal failure:
  1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  3. In Toolbox 3, click Dashboards > Service Tools > DTCs, and then select SDM or RCM depending on the vehicle Restraint Control Type.
  4. Click Read DTCs to display the DTCs.
  5. Power cycle the vehicle.
  6. Click Clear DTCs to clear the DTCs.
  7. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
