Latches - Door - Front - Both (Remove and Retrofit)

Correction Code 11351506

Procedure

Vehicles built after May 8, 2017 use 2nd generation front door latches and 2nd generation front doors that have different latch mounting points than those on 1st generation front doors. The 1st generation front doors and the 1st generation front door latches that are used on Model X built through May 8, 2017 are no longer being produced and cannot be ordered. Refer to the section Front Door and Front Door Latch Replacement of the Collision Repair Procedures for information on identifying the door latch version.

Warning
Always replace plugs or tape removed from the front door shells when servicing or inspecting the door or its components. Additional holes in the door creates more escape paths for air, which decreases the front door pressure sensor's ability detect a side impact, and can negatively affect airbag deployment.

CAUTION
Attempting to close a front door with the wrong striker installed could result in damage to the front door latch.
Informational PurposesAn informational icon, calling your attention
Note
1st generation and 2nd generation latches are not compatible as pairs on a single vehicle. When retrofitting a 1st generation front door latch on a vehicle, retrofit the opposite door with a 2nd generation front door latch.

Note
Some early Model X might have pinch sensors installed on the front doors. These have been discontinued in production. When performing this retrofit, make sure that the pinch strip sensor terminal is trimmed so that it does not make any noise inside of the door shell. Keep the sensor in position so that there aren't any holes in the door.
