Curtain Air Bag - Driver's (Remove and Replace)
Correction Code 20010502
Note
In the event of an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment, certain airbag and seat belt components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to SRS Inspection and Component Replacement for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.
Removal
- Open the front and rear doors.
- Remove the LH upper A-Pillar trim panel (refer to procedure).
- Remove the LH upper B-Pillar trim panel (refer to procedure).
- Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).

Carefully pull down the section of headliner above the driver's headrest to
expose the top of the B-pillar.
CAUTIONThe headliner is very stiff. Do not bend or damage the headliner.

Remove the bolts (x2) that secure the A-pillar bracket (torque 4 Nm).

Remove the bolts (x2) that secure the air bag bracket to the A-Pillar (torque 7
Nm).

Remove the bolt that secures the safety tether to the A-pillar (torque 7
Nm).
- Disconnect the airbag harness.
- Remove the bolts (x3) that secure the airbag to the A-pillar (torque 7 Nm).
- Release the clips that secure the airbag to the bracket at the top of the B-pillar.

Remove the bolt that secures the air bag to the top of the B-pillar (torque 20
Nm).

Carefully remove the air bag from the vehicle.
WarningStore the airbag module with the deployment side facing up. This will prevent it from being propelled if accidentally deployed, which might cause injury.
Installation
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
If the component was replaced due to an internal failure:
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
- In Toolbox 3, click , and then select SDM or RCM depending on the vehicle Restraint Control Type.
- Click Read DTCs to display the DTCs.
- Power cycle the vehicle.
- Click Clear DTCs to clear the DTCs.
- Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
