Sensor - Airbag - D-Pillar (Remove and Replace)

Note
In the event of an airbag or seat belt tensioner deployment, certain airbag and seat belt components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to SRS Inspection and Component Replacement for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.

Remove

  1. Remove components for access:
    • Vehicles built through October 18, 2016: remove the LH side rear trunk trim (refer to procedure).
    • Vehicles built after October 18, 2016: remove the LH mid zone C-pillar bracket (refer to procedure).
  2. Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  3. Remove the bolt that secures the sensor to the body (torque 8 Nm).
  4. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

If the component was replaced due to an internal failure:
  1. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  3. In Toolbox 3, click Dashboards > Service Tools > DTCs, and then select SDM or RCM depending on the vehicle Restraint Control Type.
  4. Click Read DTCs to display the DTCs.
  5. Power cycle the vehicle.
  6. Click Clear DTCs to clear the DTCs.
  7. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
