Knuckle - Suspension - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)

Special tools required for this procedure:

Remove

  1. Remove the LH rear wheel (refer to procedure).
  2. Raise the vehicle, and then remove the LH rear wheel (torque 175 Nm).
  3. Remove and discard the LH rear axle nut (torque 245 Nm).

    CAUTION
    This part is a one-time use component.
  4. Remove the LH rear park brake caliper (refer to procedure).
  5. Release the bolts that secure the rear brake caliper to the knuckle (torque 120 Nm).
  6. Use the S-hook to support the rear brake caliper.

    CAUTION
    To avoid damage to the brake line, the brake caliper must be supported at all times.
  7. Remove the bolt that secures the brake rotor to the hub, and then remove the brake rotor from the vehicle (torque 17 Nm).
  8. Remove the bolt and nut that secure the air spring module to the knuckle (torque 140 Nm).
  9. Remove the bolt and nut that secure the toe link to the knuckle (torque 130 Nm).
  10. Remove the bolt that secures the LH rear ABS wheel speed sensor.
  11. Remove the bolt and nut that secure the upper suspension link to the knuckle (torque 140 Nm).
  12. Remove the front bolt and nut that secure the lower control arm to the knuckle (torque 130 Nm)
  13. Remove the rear bolt and nut that secure the lower control arm to the knuckle, and then remove the knuckle assembly from the vehicle (torque 200 Nm).

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

CAUTION
Ensure that the bolts that secure the arms to the knuckle are inserted towards the front of the vehicle; the head of the bolt faces the rear of the vehicle and the nut is tightened at the front.

CAUTION
Only fully tighten suspension nuts and bolts when the vehicle is on a 4-post lift and the suspension is in the ride height position.

Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
