Windshield (Vehicles with 1st Generation Autopilot Hardware) (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
For Europe only: Only
technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed
all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using
urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective
equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.
Remove
- Open both front doors and lower the windows.
- Remove the LH and RH underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH and RH wiper arm. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
- Remove LH and RH sun visor. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Disconnect the windshield heater connector at the RH A-pillar, and then tape the connector to the windshield.
- Remove the screws at the LH and RH side of the headliner, release the clips (x3), and then lower the front part of the headliner.
- Apply tape to the leading edge of the headliner to prevent damage during windshield removal.
- Put rolled up towels between the front headliner and body to create space.
- Remove the rear view mirror. See Rear View Mirror (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the forward facing camera. See Camera - Triple - Forward Facing (Remove and Replace).
- Disconnect the windshield harness at the front of the headliner, and then use a plastic trim tool to release the windshield harness from the windshield bracket.
- Apply tape to both A-pillars to prevent damage while cutting the urethane.
- Cut a suitable length of square wire.
- Attach the wire to the starter tool, and then push the starter tool through the urethane at the lower RH side of the windshield.
- Remove the wire from the starter tool and attach it to the T-handles.

With an assistant, use the
T-handles to cut the urethane that attaches the windshield to the body.
CAUTIONBe careful around the two small datums at the top of the windshield. Use protective material to prevent damage to the speaker grill, heated wiper grid area and VIN plate. Maintain a downward angle near the RH side of the front edge to avoid contacting the heater grid solder points.
- Cut the square wire and remove it from the vehicle.

Attach suction cups to each side
of the windshield.
Note2 suction cups on each side.
- Remove all old adhesive from the windshield frame, and then clean the windshield frame with IPA wipes.
- Remove the tape from both A-pillars and the headliner.
Install
CAUTION
Use soft
materials to protect the windshield and to prevent scratching. Verify that the rubber strip
completely separates the windshield from the metal components of the body.
- Clean the windshield as needed. Take special caution to the forward-facing camera area to ensure a clear view of the forward-facing camera. See Clear Forward Camera View (Precision Cleaning Of Inboard Windshield).

Install suction cups to the new
windshield.
Note2 suction cups each side.

Apply urethane primer to the
windshield and vehicle body along the old urethane path.
NoteMake sure to add primer to any area that was scratched during windshield removal. Allow the primer to dry before applying the urethane.

Prepare a caulking gun and
urethane.
NoteThe opening in the nozzle must be 8 mm wide and 14 mm tall.
- Apply urethane to the windshield following the primer path on the windshield.
- With an assistant, align the windshield to the body, and then apply pressure to all four corners of the windshield.
- Check the gap and flush values using the current CVIS specifications.
- Apply tape to the windshield and attach it to the body.
- Clean the windshield with IPA wipes at the location where the light, rain, humidity sensor and the forward facing camera are mounted.
- Install a new light, rain, and humidity sensor. See Sensor - Light/Rain (Vehicles with 1st Generation Autopilot) (Remove and Replace).
- Install the forward facing camera. See Camera - Triple - Forward Facing (Remove and Replace).
- Install the rear view mirror. See Rear View Mirror (Remove and Replace).
- Connect the windshield harness at the front of the headliner.
- Install the windshield harness to the windshield harness bracket.
- Install the front part of the headliner: push the clips (x3) in place, and then install the screws at the LH and RH side of the headliner (torque 2 Nm).
- Connect the windshield heater harness.
- Install the LH and RH sun visor. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the cowl screen panel. See Panel - Cowl Screen (Remove and Replace).
- Install the LH and RH wiper arms. See Wiper Arm - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the LH and RH underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the rear center underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Center - Rear (Remove and Replace).

Perform a target calibration for
the forward facing camera. See .
CAUTIONAutopilot features might be reduced if camera pitch is not verified.
