Air Suspension Lines - Rear (Remove and Replace)

Special tools required for this procedure:

Removal

  1. Open the LH front door and lower the window.
  2. Enable Jack Mode. SeeJack Mode Activation.
  3. Loosen the lug nuts of the LH front wheel and the LH and RH rear wheels.
  4. Depressurize the rear air spring modules. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - One Air Spring.
  5. Remove the underhood storage unit. SeeUnderhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the HEPA filter. SeeFilter - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  7. Disconnect 12V power. SeeDisconnect 12V Power.
  8. Remove the screws (x3, torque 6 Nm), the bolt (torque 4 Nm) and the push clips (x2) that attach the LH and RH rear shear plate to the vehicle.
  9. Remove the HV Battery. See HV Battery (AWD) (Remove and Install) .
  10. Release the clips (x7) that attach the air spring module lines (green and brown) to the RH side body rail.
  11. Release the clips (x6) that attach the air line to the rear body rail behind the subframe.
  12. Remove the rear RH wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace) .
  13. Release the clips that secure the air spring module lines (green and brown) to the rear RH wheel arch.
  14. Release the air spring module line (green) from the air spring module (torque 2 Nm).

    CAUTION
    Plug the line connection to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.
  15. Remove the LH rear wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)
  16. Release the clips that secure the air spring module line (brown) to the rear LH wheel arch.
  17. Release the air spring module line (brown) from the air spring module (torque 2 Nm).

    Plug the line connection to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.
  18. Remove the front RH wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace) .
  19. Release the rear air spring module lines (green and brown) from the air suspension valve block (torque 2 Nm).

    CAUTION
    Plug the line connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.
  20. Release the clips (x8) that attach the air spring module lines (green and brown) to the RH front wheel arch.
  21. Remove the air spring module lines (green and brown) from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
  1. For each released end of an air suspension line, install and hand-tighten a new collet and nut (VOSS fitting).

    Note
    A plastic plug holds the fitting together before and during installation.
  2. Remove the plastic plug from each new fitting.
  3. Tighten the new fitting (torque 2 Nm).
  4. Insert the appropriate air suspension line fully into each fitting, and then lightly pull on each line to make sure that it is secure.
  5. Make sure that all air suspension lines are securely reconnected before continuing.
  6. Refill the air suspension system with Nitrogen. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - Full System .

    Note
    If the rear air suspension lines were replaced because of a leak, perform the additional steps to purge the accumulated moisture from the dryer.
  7. Verify the correct operation of the air suspension system by cycling the ride height from very low to very high and back to standard.
