Windshield (Vehicles with 2nd Generation or Later Autopilot Hardware) (Remove and Install)

CAUTION
For Europe only: Only
technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed
all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using
urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective
equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.
Remove
-
Open hood
NoteVia center display > Controls > Front Trunk

Remove rear underhood apron
Note11x clips, If the vehicle does not have a Schrader fill valve, install it now. See Fill Valve - Air (Retrofit). Then continue to the next step. If the vehicle has a Schrader fill valve, continue to the next step.

Remove LH underhood apron
Note10x clips, 1x fir tree clip

Remove RH underhood apron

Remove LH wiper arm assembly
Note1x nut, 17mm, 35 Nm, Disconnect washer hoses at cowl

Remove RH wiper arm assembly
Note2x nuts, 17mm, 35 Nm, Disconnect washer hoses at cowl

Remove LH outer hood hinge cover
Note2x clips

Remove RH outer hood hinge cover

Remove cowl
Note5x push clips, 1x windshield washer hose, 1x drain hose clamp, 1x first responder loop connector clip

Remove frunk carpet
Note2x connectors

Remove underhood storage unit
Note10x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm, 10x bolts, 10mm, 7 Nm

Remove HEPA filter
NoteLift up from bottom and pull out

Open both falcon doors
NoteVia center display > Controls > Falcon door icons

Remove LH sunvisor bezel
Note6x clips, 5x tabs, Release clips then slide bezel toward front of vehicle

Remove bolts securing LH upper
A-pillar to body
Note2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, 1x screw, T20, 2.5 Nm, 1x nyloc nut, 13mm, 5 Nm, Discard nut after removal

Note6x clips, 5x tabs, Release clips then slide bezel toward front of vehicle

Remove bolts securing RH upper

Note2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm, 1x screw, T20, 2.5 Nm, 1x nyloc nut, 13mm, 5 Nm, Discard nut after removal

Note2x connectors, 2x datums, 7x tabs, 2x clips, Release rear of trim then disconnect connectors, Release tabs upward from IP sub assembly and lower trim

Remove RH sun visor assembly
Note3x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm

Disconnect windshield connectors
Note2x connectors, Located under RH upper A-pillar

Secure windshield connectors onto
glass
-
Release front of headliner from
body
Note2x screws, T20, 2 Nm, 3x clips, Prevents damage from cutting tool
-
Apply tape onto leading edge of
headliner
NotePrevents damage from cutting tool

Place rolled up towels between front
headliner and body to create space

Remove rear view mirror lower
cover
Note4 tabs, Pull down at an angle to release the tabs

Disconnect rear view mirror

Disconnect humidity sensor and heating
element connectors

Remove inline triple cam

Remove 12V OHC cover assembly

Remove windshield harness from

NoteUse plastic trim tool to release harness from windshield bracket

Remove triple camera glare

Apply tape onto exterior

NotePrevents damage from cutting tool

Cut length of square wire

Secure wire to starter tool and push
tool through urethane at lower RH side

Remove wire from starter tool and
secure to T-handles

Pull wire starter tool back through
into vehicle
-
Use T-handles to cut urethane securing
windshield to body
NoteRecommend assistance, Use caution around two small datums at top of windshield, Use protective material to prevent damage to the speaker grill, heated wiper grid area, and VIN plate, Maintain downward angle near RH side of front edge to avoid contacting heater grid solder points

Cut square wire and remove from
vehicle and T-handles

Secure suction cups onto
windshield

Remove windshield from vehicle
NoteRecommend assistance, Partially close hood for clearance, Gently position glass onto bench

Inspect windshield for any damage that
is not reworkable
NoteReplace windshield if there is any damage that can not be rectified. Damages include: cracked glass, damaged heater grids, damaged/separating triple camera mount

Clean and remove old adhesive from the
windshield frame

Remove tape from exterior A-pillars
and headliner
NoteInspect paint and headliner for damage, Apply touch-up paint as needed
Windshield Preparation

Remove urethane bead and windshield
seals from glass

Remove damaged datums
Note2x datums, inside of upper corners

Clean double sided tape residue
Noteif needed, an eraser wheel can be used.

Clean all mating surfaces with
isopropyl alcohol

Check continuity of wiper heater
grid

Check continuity of Heated camera

Install windshield lower lip

NoteFollow windshield alignment marks at lower corners of glass

Install windshield edge seal
NoteFollow windshield alignment marks at upper corners of glass. Start from one corner and peel tape as you apply inch by inch to ensure proper fitment.

Install LH side datum

Install RH side datum

Tape wiper heater area connectors to
glass
-
Install suction cups
Notex2 on each side
-
Position windshield onto vehicle for
dry-fit
-
Visually inspect the lip and edge
seal
-
Remove glass from vehicle
-
Perform any adjustments for new
windshield
NoteAdd net pads if necessary; No time recorded as it was not necessary during validation
Install
- Clean the windshield as needed. Take special caution to the forward-facing camera area to ensure a clear view of the forward-facing camera. See Clear Forward Camera View (Precision Cleaning Of Inboard Windshield).

Clean primer path on windshield
NoteEnsure inside of glass is clean and smudge free near VIN plate as it won't be accessible once installed

Apply urethane primer to windshield
and vehicle body along old urethane path
NoteMake sure to add primer over any areas that were scratched during windshield removal. Allow primer to dry before applying urethane.

Prepare caulking gun and
urethane
NoteOpening must be 8mm wide and 14mm tall

Apply urethane following primer path
on windshield
NoteEnsure urethane breaks overlap 1 inch, Use IPA wipes to merge urethane breaks

Install windshield onto vehicle
NoteRecommend assistance, Align glass and apply pressure to all four corners

Check gap and flushness between
windshield and body and front roof applique

Install RH sunvisor bezel
Note6x clips, 5x tabs, Insert tabs and slide bezel toward rear of vehicle then secure clips

Install LH sun visor
Note3x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm, 1x edge clip, 1x connector

Install LH A-pillar upper
Note1x nut, 13mm 5 Nm, 2x bolts, 10mm, 5 Nm1x screw, T20, 2 Nm

Install LH sunvisor bezel
Note6x clips, 5x tabs, Insert tabs and slide bezel toward rear of vehicle then secure clips

Install cowl panel
NoteRemove plastic guard from lower windshield seal
-
Install wiper arms and re-connect
windshield washer hoses
Note3x nuts, 17mm, 35 Nm, 2x washer hoses
- Install lower LH and RH windshield trim
- Install HEPA filter housing

Install underhood storage unit
Note10x bolts, 10mm, 4 Nm, 10x bolts, 10mm, 7 Nm

Install frunk carpet
Note2x connectors

Install under hood aprons
Note4x aprons
- Close passenger doors and hood
- Perform a forward facing camera pitch verification. See Camera - Forward Facing (Pitch Verification).

Disconnect laptop from vehicle and
install storage cubby
Note1x connect, 2x clips, Ensure diagnostic cables are tucked into the appropriate position
