Brake Lines - 4 Tube Bundle - ABS to Wheels (2nd Generation) (Remove and Replace)

Removal

To prevent damage, always use a suitable wrench to hold the backing nut when loosening pipes and unions.

Note
If brake fluid is spilled on a painted surface, wash off immediately with clean water.
  1. Remove the 2nd generation front subframe assembly. SeeSubframe Assembly - Front - 2nd Generation (LHD) (Remove and Install).
  2. Put an oil drain container underneath the RH front wheel area to catch brake fluid that might spill during the next steps.
  3. Disconnect the brake lines from the ABS modulator to the master cylinder (torque 23 Nm), and then move the brake lines aside.
  4. Disconnect the nuts (x2) that attach the tube brake line bundle at the LH front wheel arch (torque 16 Nm).
  5. Disconnect the nut that attaches the brake pipe to the LH brake hose (torque 16 Nm), and then disconnect the brake pipe from the hose.
  6. Remove the clips (x2) that attach the brake line bundle to the LH side of the front torque box.
  7. Remove the clips (x2) that attach the brake line bundle to the LH side of the front torque box cross brace. Repeat this step on the RH side of the front torque box cross brace.

  8. Put an oil drain container underneath the RH front wheel area to catch brake fluid that might spill during the next step.
  9. Disconnect the nut that attaches the brake pipe to the RH brake hose (torque 16 Nm), and then disconnect the brake pipe from the hose.
  10. Remove the oil drain container from underneath the vehicle.
  11. Disconnect the ABS modulator electrical connector as follows:
    1. Push up the locking tap.
    2. Swing fully the release lever, and then remove the electrical connector from ABS modulator.
  12. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the RH front adapter rail to the ABS modulator (torque 10 Nm).
  13. Remove the ABS modulator from the vehicle with the 4 tube bundle still attached to the ABS modulator.
  14. Remove the nuts (x4) that attach the 4 tube bundle to the ABS modulator (torque 16 Nm), and then remove the bundle from the ABS modulator.
