Front Door Drive Unit - LH (Remove and Replace)

  • 2024-07-10: Added instructions to seal the front door drive unit before installing the unit to the vehicle.

Remove

  1. Open the LH front door and open the window.
  2. Remove the HEPA filter. See Filter - HEPA (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the LH front door trim panel. See Panel - Door Trim - Front - LH (Remove and Install).
  4. Remove and discard the bolts (x4) that attach the front door controller module bracket to the door and set the module aside.

    CAUTION
    The power door may move when the module is moved due to the presence of a sensor inside.
  5. Connect the window switch tool to the LH front door controller module, and then fully raise the LH front door window.
  6. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  7. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the front door drive unit.
  8. Release the nuts (x3) and bolt (x1) that attach the front door drive unit to the door (torque 14 Nm).
  9. Remove the front door drive unit from the door.

Install

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. Regardless whether the existing drive unit is going to be reused or a new drive unit is installed, seal the front drive unit using butyl rope. Follow the instructions provided in SB-22-11-002.
  2. If the existing drive unit is going to be reused:
    1. Clean off any old patch material from the studs of the drive unit using Loctite solvent and a wire brush.
    2. Apply Loctite 242 to the studs (x3) of the drive unit prior to installing the nuts.
  3. If it was fitted, do not reinstall the glass run channel. The glass run channel is an obsolete component.
  4. Take a photo of the complete serial number label on the new front door drive unit, or record all values on the label.

    Note
    The calibration values on the label are required in step 9 of this procedure.
  5. Install a new plastic cap on the ball stud before installation.
  6. Use pliers to reattach the linkage to the ball stud.

    CAUTION
    Use a cloth or other soft material between the hinge and the pliers to protect the painted surface of the hinge.

    CAUTION
    Make sure the linkage is connected to the ball stud before connecting the electrical harness.
  7. Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  8. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
  9. Using Toolbox 3:
    1. Select the Actions tab and search for "Write PFD Actuator Cal".
    2. Select the appropriate ODIN routine to be used:
      • If installing a new driver side door actuator, Select the ODIN routine PROC_BCFDM_FRONT-DRV_WRITE-PFD-ACTUATOR-CALSearch for routine in ToolboxDrive Front Door - Write Actuator Brake Calibration, and then click the link of the routine.
      • If installing a new passenger side door actuator, Select the ODIN routine PROC_BCFPM_FRONT-PASS_WRITE-PFD-ACTUATOR-CALSearch for routine in ToolboxPassenger Front Door - Write Actuator Brake Calibration, and then click the link of the routine.
    3. In Toolbox, set the different calibration values according to the ones printed on the label on the actuator itself.
    4. Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
  10. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
