Hub - Rear - LH (Adaptive Suspension) (Remove and Replace)

Warning
If the vehicle has air suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.

Removal

  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the LH rear wheel.
  2. Remove the wheel center cap.
  3. Loosen the hub nut (torque 245 Nm).
  4. Raise and support vehicle

    Set air suspension to "Jack Mode" Via Controls > Service > ''Jack Mode''
  5. Place vehicle into "Tow Mode" via Controls > Service > Tow Mode.
  6. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  7. Disconnect the LH rear mando brake caliper harness connector.
  8. Remove the two bolts (torque 120 Nm) that attach the LH rear Mando brake caliper and hang it aside using the S-hook.

    CAUTION
    To avoid damage to the brake line, the brake caliper must be supported at all times.
  9. Remove the LH rear axle nut (torque 245 Nm).
  10. Setup the hub puller onto LH rear hub and bearing assembly.

    Note
    use 2x lug nuts and 2x hub puller washers.
  11. Use hub puller to free the LH rear halfshaft from the hub splines.
  12. Remove the hub puller from the LH Rear hub assembly.
  13. Remove the patch bolt (torque 17 Nm) that attaches the LH rear brake rotor to the hub and bearing assembly.

    Note
    Discard the patch bolt after removal.
  14. Remove the LH rear brake rotor from the hub and bearing assembly.
  15. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the hub to the LH rear knuckle (torque 90 Nm).
  16. Remove LH rear hub and bearing from knuckle assembly. Put the hub on a non-magnetic surface.

    CAUTION
    A magnetic field from a pick-up tool or magnetic parts tray could permanently damage the magnetic pattern on the hub/bearing tone ring.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
  1. Use the magnetic field viewing card to ensure that the magnetic field on the tone ring is not damaged.
  2. Prior to installation, clean the mating surfaces of the LH rear driven hub and wheel speed sensor.

    Note
    Clean area of any debris or grease. ensure a clean surface for reading of THE wheel speed sensor. Allow 1 minute for IPA to dry.
  3. Apply Molykote M-77 to the outboard side of LH axle shaft.

    Clean if necessary. Apply no more than 1 gram to athe xle only. Do not apply Molykote M-77 to the splines.
  4. Apply grease to the axle splines before installing the new hub into the LH Rear knuckle.
  5. Install LH Rear hub bolts and torque bolts securing hub and bearing to knuckle assembly

    4x bolts, 18mm, 90 Nm
  6. When installing the LH rear halfshaft into the hub and bearing assembly, use a new washer (nut can be reused).

    Do not torque at this time. This will be done at a later step.
  7. After installation is complete, torque the LH rear axle nut (torque 245 Nm).
  8. Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
