IP Carrier (Remove and Replace)

If the 12V power supply is disconnected, do not attempt to open the front doors with door glass in closed position. Failure to follow this instruction could result in door glass shatter.

Note
Before disconnecting the 12V power supply, make sure that the driver’s door window is fully open. Failure to follow this instruction could result in vehicle lockout.

Remove

  1. Fully open both front doors.
  2. Move both front seats to their rearmost positions.
  3. Adjust the steering column:
    • Lower the steering column to its lowest position.
    • Fully extend the steering column.
  4. Remove the defrost mesh grille assembly (refer to procedure).
  5. Remove the MCU (refer to procedure).
  6. Remove the screws (x2) that secure the driver's knee bolster (torque 2.3 Nm). Remove the bolster from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the driver's knee air bag (refer to procedure).
  8. Prepare a rigid support that is approximately 16 in (400 mm) tall, which will be used to support the steering column in the next step.
  9. Working from the driver's footwell, remove the bolts that secure the steering column to the IP carrier bracket (torque 26 Nm), then lower the steering column onto the support.

    CAUTION
    The steering column must be supported to prevent damage to the electrical harness.
  10. Remove the screws that secure the IP carrier to the dash frame (torque 2 Nm).
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the dash tweeter.
  12. Lift the IP carrier up, then release the clip that holds the dash tweeter electrical harness to the IP carrier.
  13. Remove the IP carrier from the dash frame.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  • Transfer the ducts to the new IP carrier.
  • Transfer the dash tweeter to the new IP carrier.
