Adaptive Air Spring Module - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace)
Correction code 31106012
- 2024-08-19: Added note to perform air dryer regeneration when replacing component because of a leak.
Note
When replacing an air spring module for
failure, inspect all air spring modules for leak, wear, or reduced performance, and replace
them as necessary.
Removal
- Loosen the LH rear wheel lug nuts (torque 175 Nm).
- Partially raise the vehicle. SeeRaise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Depressurize the rear LH air spring module. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - One Air Spring.
- Open both falcon doors and the liftgate.
- Remove the LH welcome plate. SeeWelcome Plate - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the rear underhood apron.
- Move the LH 2nd row seat fully forward.
- Fold down the LH 3rd row seat.
- Remove the rear load floor.
- Remove the rear trunk sill trim. SeeTrim - Rear Trunk - Sill (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the trunk board and trunk floor carpet.
-
Remove the rear load floor
support.
- Remove the LH C-pillar mid trim. SeeTrim - C-Pillar - Mid - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH C-pillar upper trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the LH C-pillar lower trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Remove and Replace)
-
Remove the LH trunk side carpet
panel.
NoteDisconnect the trunk light and 12V power outlet connectors before removal.
- Remove the LH C-pillar mid-zone bracket. SeeBracket - C-Pillar - Mid Zone - LH (Remove and Replace).
-
Remove the LH rear C-pillar outlet
duct.
- Remove the LH rear wheel. SeeWheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the clips that attach the rear portion of the LH rear wheel arch liner, and then move the wheel arch liner aside for access. SeeWheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
-
Release the retaining clips (x2) that
attach the air line to the wheel arch.
-
Remove the fastener that attaches the
air line to the LH rear air spring module (torque 2 Nm).
-
For each released end of an air
suspension line, use a flat blade screwdriver to snap off the old collet, and discard
the collet and nut (VOSS fitting).
- Disconnect the upper LH rear air spring module connector.
-
Disconnect lower LH rear air spring module connector
Note1x connector, White internals
-
Remove the LH rear damper harness
bracket.
-
Loosen the bolt that attaches the LH
rear upper link to the knuckle (torque 140 Nm).
-
Loosen the bolt that attaches the LH
rear toe link to the knuckle (torque 130 Nm).
-
Loosen the rear bolt that attaches the
LH rear lower control arm to the subframe (torque 115 Nm).
-
Remove the nut and bolt that attach
the LH rear air spring module to the knuckle (torque 140 Nm).
NotePry down on the suspension to release the tension on the bolt.
- Lower the vehicle to gain access to the nuts that attach the top of the LH rear air spring module to the vehicle.
-
Remove the nuts (x3) that attach the
LH rear air spring module to the vehicle (torque 39 Nm).
NoteMove up the NVH padding for access.
- Remove the LH rear air spring module from the vehicle.
Installation
CAUTION
Replace all nylon-insert
locknuts.
CAUTION
Replace all patchbolt(s).
Note
Clean the affected areas before
installation.
CAUTION
Only fully tighten suspension nuts
and bolts when the vehicle is on a 4-post lift and the suspension is in the ride
height position.
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
-
Make sure that all air suspension
lines are securely reconnected, and then refill the new air spring module or air
suspension system. See GUID-60108A19-C4AF-49B5-818B-417D8B08DC55.html or Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - Full System.
Note
If the component was replaced because of a leak, perform the air dryer regeneration procedure to purge the accumulated moisture from the dryer. See Air Dryer - Tesla Air Suspension (Regenerate), and add correction code 31101008 as a separate activity to the Service Visit.
-
After installation is complete, torque
the suspension components on a 4-post lift while the vehicle is at ride height:
- Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
