Compressor - Air Suspension (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Move the vehicle to a 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.

    Put the vehicle into Jack Mode.
  2. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  3. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  4. In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Service-Mode" into the search field, click TAS Enter Service Run ModePROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODECommon/tasks/PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODEChassis, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  5. To deflate the reservoir, in Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Deflate" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATE-RESERVOIR, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    Note
    It might be necessary to repeat this step to fully deflate the air suspension reservoir.
  6. Click the Actions tab, type "Normal-Mode" into the search field, click TAS Enter Normal Run ModePROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODECommon/tasks/PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODEChassis, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  7. Once all Toolbox 3 routines have been completed, disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  8. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  9. Lift the HEPA filter from the bottom, and remove the filter from the vehicle.
  10. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  11. Release the clips (x2), and then remove front fusebox cover.

    Note
    Vehicles built August 21, 2017 and later use an eFuse, not a relay. For these vehicles, skip to step 13.
  12. Remove and discard the relay from K112.
  13. Remove the RH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  14. Remove the push clips (x7) and nut that attach the front portion of the RH front wheel arch liner to the vehicle, and then move the front portion of the wheel arch liner towards the rear of the vehicle for access.
  15. Disconnect the air suspension electrical harness connectors (x2).
  16. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the air suspension compressor to the support bracket and gently lay the compressor on the aero shield.
  17. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the air compressor to the compressor bracket, and then gently lay the compressor on the aero shield.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  18. Disconnect the purple air line from the air compressor.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 12 mm combination wrench
  19. Disconnect the black air line from the air compressor.
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm combination wrench
  20. Release the hose clamp, disconnect the air intake hose from the air compressor, and then remove the compressor from the vehicle.

Installation

  1. Connect the air intake hose to the air compressor, and then fasten the hose clamp.
  2. Connect the air line fittings (x2) to the air compressor.
    1. For each released end of an air suspension line, use a flat blade screwdriver to snap off the old collet, and discard the collet and nut (VOSS fitting).
    2. Install and hand-tighten new collets and nuts (VOSS fitting) to the air compressor.

      Note
      A plastic plug holds the fitting together before and during installation.
    3. Remove the plastic plug from each new fitting.
    4. Tighten each new fitting:
      • 4mm diameter fittings: Torque 2 Nm
      • 6mm diameter fittings: Torque 3.5 Nm
    5. Insert the appropriate air suspension line fully into each fitting, and then lightly pull on each line to make sure that it is secure.

      Correctly-secured lines do not pull out of fittings.
  3. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the air compressor to the compressor support bracket.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  4. Connect the air suspension electrical harness connectors (x2).
  5. Fasten the clips (x2) that attach the air intake hose to the body.
  6. Install a new relay into K112.

    Vehicles built August 21, 2017 and later use an eFuse, not a relay. For these vehicles, skip to step 8.
  7. Install the front fusebox cover, and then fasten the clips (x2).
  8. Connect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  9. Pressurize the air suspension system. See Air Suspension - Pressurize/Depressurize - Full System.
  10. Install the push clips (x7) and nut that attach the front portion of the RH front wheel arch liner to the vehicle.
    6 Nm (4.4 lbs-ft)
  11. Install the RH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
  12. Install the HEPA filter.
  13. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  14. Verify air suspension operation.
  15. Remove the vehicle from the 2 post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
