Mud Flaps - HV Battery (Retrofit)
Correction code 16101006 NOTE: Unless otherwise explicitly stated in the procedure, the above correction code and FRT reflect all of the work required to perform this procedure, including the linked procedures. Do not stack correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. NOTE: See to learn more about FRTs and how they are created. To provide feedback on FRT values, email LaborTimeFeedback@tesla.com. NOTE: See to make sure wearing proper PPE when performing the below procedure.
Warning
Only technicians who have been
trained in High Voltage Awareness and have completed all required certification
courses (if applicable) are permitted to perform this procedure. Proper personal
protective equipment (PPE) and insulating HV gloves with a minimum rating of
class 0 (1000V) must be worn any time a high voltage cable is handled. Refer to
Tech Note TN-15-92-003, "High Voltage Awareness Care Points"
for additional safety information.
Warning
Proper personal
protective equipment (PPE) is required to perform this procedure:
- High voltage insulating gloves
- Leather glove protectors
- High voltage glove tester
- Safety glasses
- Electrical hazard rated safety shoes
Warning
If the vehicle has air
suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and
supporting the vehicle.
Procedure
- Remove the HV battery from the vehicle, and move it away from the vehicle. See GUID-03EE68D7-2B14-44B0-9EA7-D05C67825E50.html.
-
Clean the highlighted area on the RH front corner of the HV battery, using
a nylon brush.
- Wipe the RH front corner of the HV battery with IPA, and then allow 1 minute to dry.
-
Position the RH battery mudflap to verify fitment.
- Cut the nozzle of the sealant approximately 4 mm from the tip.
-
Apply sealant to the back
side of the RH battery mudflap along the yellow lines in the image.
-
Install the battery mudflap
at the front of RH side rail ski, and then tighten the screw that attaches
the mudflap to the side rail ski.NoteWhen working on a HV Battery 1.5 enclosure with an aluminum cap on the side ski, first pre-drill a 3 mm hole.
-
Inspect for any gaps in the sealant. If necessary, apply extra
sealant.
- Repeat steps 2 to 8 on the LH front corner of the HV battery.
-
Install the HV battery to the vehicle. See GUID-03EE68D7-2B14-44B0-9EA7-D05C67825E50.html. Perform the
installation procedure until step GUID-03EE68D7-2B14-44B0-9EA7-D05C67825E50.html#D1E27842__GUID-7A78B3D7-9FFF-44A0-946D-DE337E2F402F.
NoteReturn to this procedure before installing the mid aero shield panel.
-
Trim a small piece from the LH and RH forward side ski covers, to allow for
clearance to the mudflap and sealant.
-
Clean the LH and RH front corners of the HV battery, using a nylon brush
and IPA.
- Cut the nozzle of the sealant approximately 15 mm from the tip.
-
Apply sealant to the LH and RH front corner of the HV battery:
- Fill the gap between the outer side ski edge and the plastic cover.
- Fill the gap between the inner side ski edge and the HV battery enclosure.
- Install the mid aero shield panel. See .
-
Install the fasteners that attach the LH shear plate to the vehicle.
NoteInstall a new nyloc nut.NoteSee torque specification for each fastener:
- 15mm socket - 35 Nm
- T25 socket - 6 Nm
- 10mm socket - 4 Nm
-
Install the clips (x2) that attach the LH shear plate to the wheel
fairing.
- Repeat steps 16 and 17 for the RH shear plate.
- Lower vehicle partially.
- Connect 12V power. See GUID-B4F072DA-3583-4456-BD00-07107B151FAD.html.
- Install the outlet HEPA filter duct. See .
- Install the inlet HEPA filter duct. See .
- Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See .
- Install the rear underhood apron. See .
- Remove the vehicle from the lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
