Pitch Mechanism - 2nd Row Seat - LH (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Remove the LH 2nd row seat back cover (refer to procedure).
  2. Remove the Easy Entry switch from the seat back cover, and then reconnect the switch to the seat.

    Reconnecting the Easy Entry switch allows the seat to be moved in a later step.
  3. Move the LH 2nd row seat fully rearward.
  4. Use a pick to remove the 2 covers that cover the screws on the bottom of the seat.
  5. Remove the screws (x2) that secure the lower trim panel to the bottom of the seat frame.
  6. Use a trim tool to release the clips (x4) that secure the lower trim panel to the bottom of the seat frame, and then remove the lower trim panel.
    Tip: Move the seat forward and backward as necessary for access.
  7. Starting at the outer rear corner, peel the lower cushion trim (upholstery) away from the bottom of the seat frame. This allows the lower cushion trim and foam to be lifted in the next step.

  8. While lifting the lower cushion foam away from the bottom of the seat frame, remove the screws and nuts that secure the pitch mechanism to the seat (torque 20 Nm).
  9. Use the seat side switches to pitch the seat fully forward.
  10. Raise the seat to disconnect the pitch mechanism, but do not remove the pitch mechanism at this time.
  11. Move the seat fully forward.
  12. Have an assistant push firmly on the seatback, and then remove the pitch mechanism from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  • Check the forward end of the old pitch mechanism for a hall-effect sensor and sensor wire.
    • If the old pitch mechanism does not have a hall-effect sensor, or the hall-effect sensor wire is cut: Cut the wires that connect to the hall effect sensor on the new pitch mechanism. The sensor is not used with these seats.
    • If the old pitch mechanism has a hall-effect sensor with the sensor wire intact: Do not cut the wires on the new pitch mechanism. Connect the electrical connector when reinstalling the pitch mechanism.

  • Apply Loctite 262 threadlocker to the screws that secure the pitch mechanism assembly to the seat.
  • Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  • Unlock the gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
  • To disable seat install mode, in Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Seat-Install" into the search field, click PROC_BCREAR_X_SEAT-INSTALL-MODE-OFFSearch for routine in Toolbox, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  • In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "PROC_BCS2L" in the search field, click PROC_BCS2L_R2-L_CALIBRATE-S2L-PITCHSearch for routine in Toolbox, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  • Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
