Display - Instrument Cluster (Tegra) (Remove and Replace)

Correction Code 21050302

Special tools required:

  • 1055662-00-A, ANTI-STATIC MAT/W WRIST GROUNDING CORD AND WRIST STRAP
  • 1065660-00-A, ESD FOAM CONTAINER FOR MEDIA CONTROL UNIT
  • 1080559-10-A, WIHA TORQUE VARIO (TORQUE SCREWDRIVER .1 - .6 NM)
  • 1080560-10-A, WIHA (T10 TORX TORQUE CONTROL BLADE)

Removal

  1. Place an MCU foam ESD container on the right side of the ESD mat.

    CAUTION
    Improper use of the ESD kit can result in damage to the instrument cluster.
  2. Remove the instrument cluster (refer to procedure).

    Note
    Transition the ESD equipment as necessary from the vehicle to the ESD mat once removed.
  3. Place instrument cluster on the foam container and set up the ESD kit per TN-14-92-003.
  4. Remove and discard the screws (x2) that attach the bottom of the rear cover to the housing assembly (torque 0.5 Nm).
  5. Remove the rear cover from the instrument cluster by lifting the bottom, tilting it towards the top, then releasing the retaining tabs.
  6. Carefully release the locking tabs on each side of the larger ribbon cable by pulling them up, and then carefully release the larger ribbon cable from the circuit board.

    The ribbon cable is reused. Avoid scratching, bending, or damaging the ribbon cable or connection.
  7. Carefully release the smaller ribbon cable by flipping the locking latch and gently sliding the ribbon cable away.

  8. Remove and discard the screws (x6) that attach the circuit board to the housing assembly (torque 0.5 Nm).
  9. Carefully remove the circuit board from the housing assembly by holding it as shown. Place the circuit board on the ESD mat.
  10. Remove and discard the screw that attaches the display to the housing assembly (torque 0.5 Nm).
  11. Carefully lift the housing assembly to release it from the display. Take care in guiding the ribbon cables through the openings in the housing.

  12. Inspect the housing assembly to determine if it needs to be cleaned. If necessary, use IPA wipes to clean the housing assembly and allow to fully dry before continuing.

  13. Carefully release the larger ribbon cable from the original display by sliding the latches and then pulling the ribbon cable up.

Installation

  1. Transfer the larger ribbon cable to the new display by inserting the correct end of the ribbon cable into the connector and then closing the locking tabs. Make sure the ribbon cable is secured.

    Note
    The ribbon cable is marked with "DISPLAY" and "PCBA" to assist with orientation. Make sure the natural bend in the ribbon cable makes the PCBA side curl towards the inner side of the assembly.
  2. Carefully maneuver the housing assembly onto the new display, guiding the ribbon cables through the openings in the housing assembly.
  3. Install a new screw that attaches the display to the housing assembly (torque 0.5 Nm).
  4. Using the dowel pins on the housing assembly as a guide, align the 3 pins to place the circuit board in place on the housing assembly.
  5. Install new screws (x6) that attach the circuit board to the housing assembly (torque 0.5 Nm).
  6. Connect the larger ribbon cable to the circuit board. Make sure that the ribbon cable is secure and that the locks are closed.
  7. Connect the smaller ribbon cable to the circuit board. Make sure that the ribbon cable is secure and that the locks are closed.
  8. Install the instrument cluster rear cover by aligning the alignment pins then lowering the bottom of the back cover down.
  9. Install new screws (x2) that attach the bottom of the rear cover to the housing assembly (torque 0.5 Nm).
  10. Install the instrument cluster (refer to procedure).
